Purpose: Understanding which factors are important for healthcare decisions of patients with diabetes in clinical practice is important to personalise diabetes care strategies and tailor care plans to the individual. The main drivers for these healthcare decisions remain unclear. This study assessed which key factors are relevant for healthcare decisions during clinical consultations for patients with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) and type 2 diabetes (T2DM), according to healthcare professionals.

Introduction: The American Diabetes Association and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes advocate a person-centered approach to enhance patient engagement in self-care activities. To that purpose, people with diabetes need adequate diabetes knowledge, motivation, skills and confidence. These prerequisites are captured by the concept 'patient activation'.

Methods: Implementation study of a new consultation model in 47 general practices (primary care) and 6 outpatient clinics (secondary care); 1200 patients from primary and 166 from secondary care participated. Data collection took place between November 2015 and February 2017.
Aims: To assess the intended intensity of Type 2 diabetes care and the factors associated with that intensity of care after the annual monitoring visit in which a new person-centred diabetes consultation model including shared decision making was used.
Methods: We conducted an observational study in 1284 people from 47 general practices and six hospital outpatient clinics. Intensity of care (more, no/minimal change, less) was based on monitoring frequency and referral to other care providers.
Aim: This study explored the relationship between insulin use and patient activation (a person's internal readiness and capabilities to undertake health-promoting actions) in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus and aimed to identify demographic, clinical and psychosocial factors involved in patient activation.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, baseline data from a Dutch nationwide study were analyzed. Patient activation was assessed with the Patient Activation Measure 13.
Objective: To assess adherence to the national postpartum hemorrhage guideline and Managing Obstetric Emergencies and Trauma course instructions and its determinants in the Netherlands.
Methods: A prospective observational multicenter study in 16 Dutch hospitals analyzing data from medical records of 398 women at high risk for postpartum hemorrhage, of which 293 were supplemented with data from prospective video recordings. Adherence to guideline-based quality indicators for prevention, management, and organization of postpartum hemorrhage care was measured.
Objective: We assessed both from a patient and provider perspective the usefulness and added value of a consultation model that facilitates person-centered diabetes care.
Research Design And Methods: The model consists of ) inventory of disease and patient-related factors; ) setting personal goals; ) choosing treatment; and ) determination of required care. It was implemented in 47 general practices and 6 hospital outpatient clinics.

Diabetes care is shifting from disease management to personalised care. Internationally, diabetes care providers are advised to integrate the patient's preferences, wishes and possibilities into diabetes care in order to improve its efficiency. The Dutch Diabetes Federation has developed a specifically patient-centred conversation model that can be systematically applied.

An important step in optimizing care is the translation of evidence-based guidelines into comprehensive hospital protocols. However, knowledge about the quality of these protocols is lacking.

Objective: To assess the external validity of the European Randomised study of Screening for Prostate Cancer (ERSPC) Risk Calculator (RC) in a contemporary clinical cohort.
Methods: The RC calculates the probability of a positive sextant prostate biopsy (P(posb)) using serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA), results of digital rectal examination, transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) and ultrasound assessed prostate volume.
Background: Activation of somatostatin receptors (sstr1-5) by somatostatin and its analogues exerts an inhibitory effect on hormone secretion and provides the basis for the treatment of a range of endocrine diseases such as acromegaly, Cushing's disease and neuroendocrine tumors (NET). The lack of well-characterized commercially available sstr subtype-specific antibodies prevents routine identification of the sstr expression profile in patients.
Methods: We generated and characterized new mouse monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) targeting the five human sstr subtypes using ELISA and immunohistochemistry, and tested their suitability in formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded (FFPE) human tissues and archival samples of normal pancreatic tissue and NET.

Objective: Develop and validate an RC based on digital rectal examination (DRE) that circumvents the need for TRUS but still includes information on PV.
Design, Setting, And Participants: For development of the DRE-based RC, we studied the original ERSPC Rotterdam RC population including 3624 men (885 PCa cases) and 2896 men (547 PCa cases) detected at first and repeat screening 4 yr later, respectively.
Unlabelled: Study Type - Diagnostic (cohort) Level of Evidence 2b What's known on the subject? and What does the study add? So far, few publications have shown that a prediction model influences the behaviour of both physicians and patients. To our knowledge, it was unknown whether urologists and patients are compliant with the recommendations of a prostate cancer risk calculator and their reasons for non-compliance. Recommendations of the European Randomized study of Screening for Prostate Cancer risk calculator (ERSPC RC) about the need of a prostate biopsy were followed in most patients.

This study investigated the humoral immunity against this virus before and after vaccination with a 2009 influenza A virus (H1N1) monovalent MF59-adjuvanted vaccine, as well as the persistence of vaccine-induced antibodies. Our prospective longitudinal study included 498 health care workers (mean age, 43 years; median age, 44 years).

Our objective is to extract correction factors for adjustment of the model, addressing contemporary extended biopsy schemes.
Materials And Methods: Post-mortem 18-core biopsy results of men who died of unrelated causes, but were diagnosed with prostate cancer post-mortem were used to provide details on prostate biopsies and whole mount specimens.
Background: Prediction models need external validation to assess their value beyond the setting where the model was derived from.
Objective: To assess the external validity of the European Randomized study of Screening for Prostate Cancer (ERSPC) risk calculator (www.prostatecancer-riskcalculator.
The objective of this study was to determine whether screening for prostate cancer (PC) reduces PC mortality and, if so, whether the required criteria to be introduced as a population-based screening program are satisfied. A literature review was conducted through electronic scientific databases. The screening tests, that is, PSA and digital rectal examination, have limited sensitivity and specificity for detecting PC; screening produces a beneficial stage shift and reduces PC mortality.

The benefits of population-based prostate cancer screening are the detection of clinically important prostate cancers at an early, still curable, stage and the subsequent reduction of prostate cancer-specific mortality. However, a prostate-specific antigen (PSA)-based prostate cancer screening program is currently insufficient to warrant its introduction as a public health policy. The main reasons are insufficient knowledge regarding the optimal screening strategy and overdiagnosis and overtreatment of indolent prostate cancers that are unlikely to lead to complaints or death.

Background: In The Netherlands, 35 percent of births take place in "primary care" to women considered at low risk and during labor, approximately 30 percent are referred to "secondary care." High-risk women and some low-risk women deliver in secondary care. This study sought to compare planned place of birth and incidence of operative delivery among women at low risk of complications at the time of onset of labor.

We studied the effect of gonadal steroids on SOM peptide-containing cells in the periventricular nucleus (PeVN) of ovariectomized (OVX) female rats, and compared these data with data from intact male rats. Adult female rats were treated with estradiol (E(2)) and/or progesterone (P), 3 months (long-term) or 2 weeks (short-term) after ovariectomy (OVX).

Fas, Fas ligand, Bcl-2, Bax and caspase-3 mRNA expression and proteins were detected in all ovarian tissue extracts, though the amount of protein varied with the phase of the estrous cycle. Fas, Bax and caspase-3 protein levels were highest at diestrus and decreased thereafter towards metestrus.
