Avian influenza A H5N6 virus is a highly contagious infectious agent that affects domestic poultry and humans in South Asian countries. The EII(t)(Man) phosphotransferase system (PTS) permease encoded by the mpt operon is the principal glucose transporter in Listeria monocytogenes. EII(t)(Man) participates in glucose-mediated carbon catabolite repression (CCR) and downregulation of virulence gene expression, and it is the receptor for class IIa bacteriocins.
