Land surface temperature (LST) serves as a crucial indicator for evaluating the effects of different environmental factors on the ecosystem, including alterations in land use, climate variations, and emissions of greenhouse gases. This comprehensive study used remote sensing data to analyze changes and effects of land use/land cover (LULC) on LST in Tay Ninh province, Vietnam, from 1988-2023. Landsat satellite images in 1988, 2004, and 2023 were preprocessed and supervised classification on ArcGIS 10.

Loss of forest cover has an important impact on global climate change. This study investigated variation in forest cover in Luang Prabang district, the capital of Luang Prabang province, Lao PDR, using Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) and Operational Land Imager (OLI) satellite imagery over the period 1988-2021. The maximum likelihood classification technique was used to classify Landsat images of the years 1988, 2001, 2011, and 2021 and was evaluated for accuracy using the kappa coefficient for each year (0.

The coexistence of multiple primary malignant tumors in an organ is rare. This includes the extremely rarely reported combination of gastric adenocarcinoma and gastric MALT-type lymphoma as synchronous tumors. We describe a case of a 72-year-old man diagnosed with this combination.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore the causes of acute undifferentiated fever (AUF) in children under five in Vietnam, conducted at Thai Binh pediatric hospital over a year.
  • Among 286 children with AUF, 53.9% tested positive for pathogens using real-time PCR, with enterovirus being the most common at 31.1%.
  • The research highlights the effectiveness of PCR for identifying infections in AUF cases and suggests future studies should include more diverse testing methods to better understand and treat these viral infections.

One uncommon histological subtype of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma is sarcomatoid intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Histopathological and immunohistochemical tests are used to diagnose sarcomatoid intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, which frequently has a worse prognosis than regular intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. The example of a 65-year-old female with sarcomatoid intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, who presented with sporadic right upper abdomen discomfort, is discussed in this paper.

Article Synopsis
  • Vietnam has adopted a One Health approach to deal with infectious diseases from animals since past outbreaks like SARS and avian flu in 2003, focusing on zoonoses, food safety, and antimicrobial resistance.
  • A virtual consultation workshop in July 2021 involved 32 institutions discussing future directions for the One Health strategy in Vietnam.
  • The experiences outlined aim to offer practical insights to help other countries enhance their disease preparedness and public health coordination.

Background: There are currently two markers used to monitor treatment response to anti-retroviral therapy (ART) in HIV-infected children: CD4 T-cell count and HIV viral load; but analysis of these could be challenging in resource-poor countries. The aim of this study was therefore to determine whether change in growth parameters such as weight-for-age Z score (WAZ), height-for-age Z score (HAZ) and body mass index-for-age Z score (BMIZ) is associated with treatment response in HIV-infected children.

Methods: This was a nested case-control study, in which the data were collected at enrolment and then periodically every 6 months for a total 36 month follow up of 107 HIV-infected children enrolled and treated at National Hospital of Pediatrics, Vietnam.

Background: HIV-infected children suffer from higher levels of treatment failure compared to adults. Immunoactivation, including humoral immunoactivation reflected by increased immunoglobulin levels, is believed to occur early during HIV infection. Therefore, we wanted investigate alteration in immunoglobulin levels in association with treatment response in HIV-infected children.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β), and β-catenin have been reported to be altered in patients with schizophrenia and have been targeted by antipsychotic drugs. Atypical antipsychotics, but not typical antipsychotics, exert neuroprotective effects by regulating these proteins. In this study, we analyzed the effects of the atypical antipsychotic drugs olanzapine and aripiprazole and a typical antipsychotic drug, haloperidol, on the expression of BDNF, phosphorylated GSK-3β, and β-catenin in the hippocampus of rats subjected to immobilization stress.
