Plasma high-sensitivity C-reactive protein measured prior to transplant is related to prediabetes in first-year kidney transplant recipients: A single-center cross-sectional study in Vietnam.

Aim: To determine the rate of prediabetes among and the pre-transplant plasma high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) value predictive of prediabetes in patients during their first year post-living donor kidney transplant.

Methods: A total of 538 patients underwent living donor kidney transplantation between January 2018 and December 2020, 413 of whom met the inclusion criteria for this study. All patients underwent oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTTs) with 75 g glucose/200 mL solution, starting 3 months post-transplant and repeating the test every 3 months for the first year.

A Cerium-Containing Metal-Organic Framework: Synthesis and Heterogeneous Catalytic Activity toward Fenton-Like Reactions.

A cerium-based metal-organic framework, namely MOF-589, was synthesized using benzoimidephenanthroline tetracarboxylic acid (H BIPA-TC) as an organic linker. Full characterization including single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analysis, thermogravimetrical analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and N adsorption measurements at low pressure and 77 K were carried out. The material was employed as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for decomposition of methylene blue (MB) dye (40 ppm) in the presence of H O in 15 minutes.

Adaptation and Validation of Active Aging Index Among Older Vietnamese Adults.

Functional Screening of Hydrolytic Activities Reveals an Extremely Thermostable Cellulase from a Deep-Sea Archaeon.

Extreme habitats serve as a source of enzymes that are active under extreme conditions and are candidates for industrial applications. In this work, six large-insert mixed genomic libraries were screened for hydrolase activities in a broad temperature range (8-70°C). Among a variety of hydrolytic activities, one fosmid clone, derived from a library of pooled isolates of hyperthermophilic archaea from deep sea vents, displayed hydrolytic activity on carboxymethyl cellulose substrate plates at 70°C but not at lower temperatures.

Characterization of chromosomal and megaplasmid partitioning loci in Thermus thermophilus HB27.

Background: In low-copy-number plasmids, the partitioning loci (par) act to ensure proper plasmid segregation and copy number maintenance in the daughter cells. In many bacterial species, par gene homologues are encoded on the chromosome, but their function is much less understood. In the two-replicon, polyploid genome of the hyperthermophilic bacterium Thermus thermophilus, both the chromosome and the megaplasmid encode par gene homologues (parABc and parABm, respectively).

Identification of novel esterase-active enzymes from hot environments by use of the host bacterium Thermus thermophilus.

Functional metagenomic screening strategies, which are independent of known sequence information, can lead to the identification of truly novel genes and enzymes. Since E. coli has been used exhaustively for this purpose as a host, it is important to establish alternative expression hosts and to use them for functional metagenomic screening for new enzymes.

Constructions of gender in Vietnam: in pursuit of the 'Three Criteria'.

Vietnam has advanced far beyond most other developing countries and, indeed, surpasses many developed countries in adopting a legal framework based on gender equality, and in creating institutions and programmes to support women's advancement. Inegalitarian gender norms have also persisted, however. The Vietnam Women's Union promotes women's educational, political and economic advancement but simultaneously exhorts women to pay attention to their Confucian role of maintaining family hierarchy and harmony.
