Purpose: To evaluate the demographics, clinical features and response of orbital squamous cell carcinoma treated with immunotherapy in an Australian and New Zealand cohort.
Methods: This is a multi-institutional, retrospective case series. Data was collected on patient demographics, clinical presentation, imaging findings, treatment course and outcomes.
Management of neuropathic corneal pain (NCP) typically involves pharmacotherapy, but refractory cases may require interventions like scrambler therapy, used for various neuropathic pain conditions. We report a patient with a 15-year history of refractory NCP who underwent scrambler therapy after failed treatments. Over five consecutive days, she received 45-minute sessions with six electrodes placed around both eyes.

Objective: This study aimed to design and synthesize a series of novel o-aminophenol de-rivatives through an efficient multi-step process, characterize them using modern spectro-scopic techniques, and evaluate their antimicrobial, antioxidant, and cytotoxic activities.
Background: Deterioration of right ventricular (RV) function in repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rToF) is poorly understood. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is used for monitoring, but its analysis is user-dependent and time-consuming. We sought to automate the analysis of CMR using machine learning, and to identify imaging traits associated with adverse RV remodeling in the natural history of rToF.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFibromyalgia is a complex clinical entity characterized by a broad range of symptoms including chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain, profound fatigue, impaired cognition, and mood disturbances. Current understanding of disease pathogenesis assumes neurotransmitter dysregulation and central pain sensitization play a key role resulting in heightened pain sensitivity. Genetic predisposition as well as alterations in endocrine and immune function have been implicated.

Purpose Of Review: Quickly referenceable, streamlined, algorithmic approaches for advanced pain management are lacking for patients, trainees, non-pain specialists, and interventional specialists. This manuscript aims to address this gap by proposing a comprehensive, evidence-based algorithm for managing neuropathic, nociceptive, and cancer-associated pain. Such an algorithm is crucial for pain medicine education, offering a structured approach for patient care refractory to conservative management.

Neuromodulation techniques, particularly peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS), have emerged as promising interventions. However, the evidence supporting their effectiveness in treating phantom limb pain (PLP) and residual limb pain (RLP) remains limited.

This study evaluated the effectiveness of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols in addressing these issues.
Methods: This observational study compared two groups of patients, utilizing a prospective arm for ERAS and a retrospective arm for routine care.

Objectives: Cancer pain is among the most prevalent and challenging symptoms in cancer care, with up to 95% of patients with late-stage cancer experiencing moderate-to-severe pain. Conventional pharmacologic treatments, including opioids, carry risks, and patients' conditions may be refractory to medical management or have contraindications. Neurostimulation techniques, such as spinal cord stimulation (SCS), dorsal root ganglion stimulation (DRGS), and peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS), have shown promise in treating treatment-induced cancer pain.

Although much research has been devoted to analyzing how environments affect species diversity, fewer studies have resolved the link between the fundamental process of ecological selection and species diversity. It has been suggested that identifying ecological selection by estimating changes in community-weighted variance (CWV) and mean (CWM) of functional traits may help to identify more general rules of community assembly.

Managing PLP presents challenges with current evidence-based pharmacological and interventional therapies yielding varied results. In recent years, advancements in neuromodulation, such as scrambler therapy (ST), have demonstrated effectiveness in addressing various chronic and neuropathic pain syndromes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLi-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) is a hereditary disorder characterized by an increased risk of developing multiple early-onset cancers, primarily due to germline mutations. Women and men with this mutation face lifetime cancer risks of 90% and 70%, respectively. This report describes the first documented case of LFS with clinical information in Vietnam involving a 9-year-old child diagnosed with osteosarcoma who had multiple first- and second-degree relatives with cancer.

Methods: A cross-sectional and retrospective study analyzed dengue surveillance data in the period from January 01, 2018, to December 31, 2022. Spatial-temporal scanning statistics were performed using the free software SatScan v10.
The SARS-CoV-2 main protease, a vital enzyme for virus replication, is a potential target for developing drugs in COVID-19 treatment. Until now, three SARS-CoV-2 main protease inhibitors have been approved for COVID-19 treatment. This study explored the inhibitory potency of asymmetric imidazole-4,5-dicarboxamide derivatives against the SARS-CoV-2 main protease.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLiver cirrhosis results from progressive hepatic fibrosis and is generally considered irreversible. One of the many consequences of cirrhosis is spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. This typically presents in patients with decompensated cirrhosis due to bacterial translocation, most commonly from the intestinal bacterial flora seeding into the ascitic fluid.

DNAJB1-PRKACA-mediated inactivation of the SIK stimulates CRTC2-p300-mediated transcription to drive tumor growth. The findings illuminate pathogenic mechanisms and inform therapeutic development.
