Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disabling psychological disorder characterized by chronic symptoms of intrusiveness, avoidance, and hyperarousal after a traumatic event. Retrospective studies have indicated PTSD increases the risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) including arrhythmia, hypertension, and myocardial infarction. The goal of this study was to: 1) use a murine model of cued fear conditioning (inescapable foot shock, IFS) to develop a scoring method to distinguish a PTSD-like phenotype, and 2) use this model system to characterize the cardiac phenotype and function in mice with extreme PTSD-like behaviors.

Retention and adherence to daily oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) are critical for effective HIV prevention; however, YMSM exhibit lower rates of both compared to other populations. This is important because young men who have sex with men (YMSM) are at higher risk for HIV, and understanding their challenges can help create better support and interventions. This scoping review synthesizes evidence on the facilitators and barriers to HIV PrEP retention and adherence among YMSM, focusing on individuals aged 10 to 29 years.

In this work, we propose and assess the potential of generative artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool for facilitating public engagement around potential clean energy sources. Such an application could increase energy literacy-an awareness of low-carbon energy sources among the public therefore leading to increased participation in decision-making about the future of energy systems. We explore the use of generative AI to communicate technical information about low-carbon energy sources to the general public, specifically in the realm of nuclear energy.

Transthoracic (TTE) and transesophageal (TEE) echocardiographic studies with agitated saline, also known as "bubble studies" (BSs), are used to diagnose patent foramen ovales (PFOs) in cryptogenic strokes (CSs). Guidelines limit PFO closure recommendations to CS patients ≤ 60 but BSs are often performed as part of standard order sets, leading to inappropriate studies in older patients with already-established stroke etiologies. This retrospective single-center study included acute ischemic stroke patients between January 2021 and June 2022 and assessed the stroke etiology and number of the echocardiographic studies performed.

Article Synopsis
  • Flavivirus infections, such as Zika and West Nile, significantly impact the host's lipid metabolism, leading to changes in specific lipid levels early in the infection.
  • Increased levels of certain lipids, like ceramides, and alterations in glycerophospholipid and fatty acid metabolism are observed, especially in viruses causing cell damage.
  • Disrupting specific lipid-related enzymes can reduce virus replication and effects on cells, indicating that lipid remodeling is crucial for the infection and replication of orthoflaviviruses.
