: African swine fever virus (ASFV) continues to spread globally, causing severe economic losses to pig farmers. Vietnam licensed two live attenuated vaccines based on the ASFV strains ASFV-G-ΔI177L and ASFV-G-ΔMGF to control the ongoing ASF outbreaks. In 2023, newly emerging highly virulent recombinant ASF viruses (rASFV I/II) containing genetic elements from both p72 genotype I and II ASF viruses were reported from Northern Vietnam.

We have designed a novel construct containing the extracellular domain of the TGF-β receptor II linked to a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor (GPI-ecto-TβRII) lacking the transmembrane and cytoplasmic signaling domain of TGF-β receptor II (TβRII). T cells transduced with lentivirus expressing the GPI-ecto-TβRII construct show 5 to 15 times higher membrane expression compared with a previously established dominant-negative receptor carrying a truncated signaling domain.

Interactions between Paracetamol and Formaldehyde: Theoretical Investigation and Topological Analysis.

In this work, noncovalent interactions including hydrogen bonds, C···C, N···O, and van der Waals forces between paracetamol and formaldehyde were investigated using the second-order perturbation theory MP2 in conjunction with the correlation consistent basis sets (aug-cc-pVDZ and aug-cc-pVTZ). Two molecular conformations of paracetamol were considered. Seven equilibrium geometries of dimers were found from the result of the interactions with formaldehyde for each conformation of paracetamol.

The Adapting Agriculture to Climate Change Project set out to improve the diversity, quantity, and accessibility of germplasm collections of crop wild relatives (CWR). Between 2013 and 2018, partners in 25 countries, heirs to the globetrotting legacy of Nikolai Vavilov, undertook seed collecting expeditions targeting CWR of 28 crops of global significance for agriculture. Here, we describe the implementation of the 25 national collecting programs and present the key results.

Efficacy and Safety of Radiofrequency Ablation for the Treatment of Autonomously Functioning Thyroid Nodules: A Long-Term Prospective Study.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of RFA in the AFTN treatment after 2 years of follow-up and to find the factors related to treatment responses through TSH level and VRR.

Materials And Methods: This long-term prospective study was conducted from September 2017 to April 2021 on 17 AFTNs treated with RFA. Clinical evaluations, thyroid function tests, thyroid scintigraphy, and ultrasonography examinations were performed at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 24 months after ablation.

Simultaneous mechanical thrombectomy for bilateral acute internal carotid artery occlusion.

Acute bilateral internal carotid occlusion was a very rare disease with a very poor prognosis. Clinical case reports according to the literature showed that mechanical thrombectomy was the most optimal treatment. We reported a clinical case of successful treatment with simultaneous thrombectomy in both occluded carotid arteries.

Investigating the influence of excipient batch variation on the structure, consistency and physical stability of polysorbate 60-based topical vehicles.

Fatty alcohol-polysorbate 60-water ternary systems were used as models to represent the continuous phases of the respective semisolid oil-in-water emulsions for topical delivery of cosmetic and medicinal agents. The influence of batch variation of polysorbate 60 and fatty alcohol on structure and consistency of these systems was investigated using microscopy, rheology, differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray scattering techniques. The polysorbate 60 : cetostearyl alcohol mixed emulsifying wax showed swelling in water, that is, the lamellar repeat distance continually augmented from 93 to 125 Å with water percentage 20-90%.

Maximizing genetic representation in seed collections from populations of self and cross-pollinated banana wild relatives.

Background: Conservation of plant genetic resources, including the wild relatives of crops, plays an important and well recognised role in addressing some of the key challenges faced by humanity and the planet including ending hunger and biodiversity loss. However, the genetic diversity and representativeness of ex situ collections, especially that contained in seed collections, is often unknown. This limits meaningful assessments against conservation targets, impairs targeting of future collecting and limits their use.

A case report of Mikulicz's disease.

Mikulicz's disease is a unique condition involving the enlargement of the lacrimal and salivary glands, similar to that observed in Sjogren's syndrome; however, Mikulicz's disease is clinically characterized by infrequent autoimmune reactions and responsiveness to glucocorticoid treatment. The ultrasound features of the lacrimal and salivary glands in patients with IgG4-Mikulicz's disease were characterized by multiple hypoechoic areas of varying sizes within the enlarged glands. IgG4 serum level was also elevated, in contrast to the detection of normal levels in Sjogren's syndrome.

Intrahepatic lymphatic channel sclerotic embolization for treatment of postoperative lymphatic ascites: a report of 3 cases.

Postoperative hepatic lymphorrhea is extremely rare and there is no standard treatment for this condition. We report the cases of 3 men, 32-, 56-, and 37-year-old, with postoperative hepatic lymphorrhea, which was refractory to conservative treatment. Transhepatic lymphangiography allowed locating the lymphatic leak and treating it with hepatic lymphatic vessels injection of foam sclerotic agent.
