Electrical Characteristics of CMOS-Compatible SiO-Based Resistive-Switching Devices.

The electrical characteristics and resistive switching properties of memristive devices have been studied in a wide temperature range. The insulator and electrode materials of these devices (silicon oxide and titanium nitride, respectively) are fully compatible with conventional complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) fabrication processes. Silicon oxide is also obtained through the low-temperature chemical vapor deposition method.

Understanding high-velocity impact, and the subsequent high strain rate material deformation and potential catastrophic failure, is of critical importance across a range of scientific and engineering disciplines that include astrophysics, materials science, and aerospace engineering. The deformation and failure mechanisms are not thoroughly understood, given the challenges of experimentally quantifying material evolution at extremely short time scales. Here, copper foils are rapidly strained via picosecond laser ablation and probed in situ with femtosecond x-ray free electron (XFEL) pulses.

PHARMACOGENETIC EFFECTS OF METHOTREXATE (MTX) IN UKRAINIAN PATIENTS DEPENDING ON THE MTHFR GENOTYPES (CLINICAL CASES).

The aim of the study is an evaluation the influence of MTHFR gene polymorphisms in the response to MTX in Ukrainian patients. The study group included unrelated Ukrainian patients with dermatoses - psoriasis vulgaris, psoriasis arthritis, psoriasis erythrodermic, atopic dermatitis, scleroderma, eczema, flat lichen and ectopic pregnancy. The materials for this study are based on the accumulated data from clinical observations of different reactions of patients with dermatoses and ectopic pregnancies when using methotrexate as the basic therapy according protocols.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of allelic polymorphism of the FLG and MTHFR genes and their associations in gynecological patients with ichthyosis vulgaris. Gynecological disorders are observed in presence of some forms of ichtyosis. From the prospective of improving nation's healthcare, the greatest attention is drawn to reproductive disorders.

On the possibility of lipid-induced regulation of conformation and immunogenicity of influenza a virus H1/N1 hemagglutinin as antigen of TI-complexes.

The tubular immunostimulating complex (TI-complex) consisting of cucumarioside A2-2, cholesterol and monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG) from marine macrophytes is the perspective antigen delivery system for subunit vaccines. MGDG is a lipid matrix for the protein antigen incorporated in the TI-complex. The aim of the present work was to study the influence of MGDGs from different macrophytes on conformation and immunogenicity of the secreted recombinant uncleaved hemagglutinin monomer (HA0S) of influenza A virus H1/N1.

[Prediction of remote results after surgical management of patients presenting with atherosclerosis obliterans of the lower-limb arteries].

Forecasting the development of implants' narrowing appears to be one of the most important problems encountered in vascular surgery today. The present study was therefore undertaken to work out a comprehensive diagnostic methodology making it possible to reliably predict the development of stenosis of vascular anastomoses during the postoperative period in patients presenting with atherosclerosis obliterans. The work was based upon the findings obtained by examining a total of seventy-nine patients diagnosed with atherosclerosis obliterans of the lower-limbs arteries, also including assessment of a large number of haemodynamic and immunological parameters both before and after reconstructive vascular interventions.

A method of monitoring the sequential events of IS481 transposition into the ctag site of bvg operon of Bordetella pertussis has been developed. Reproduction of virulent B. pertussis cells in vitro is accompanied by intrachromosomal site-specific IS481 transposition, which, in turn, results in inactivation of bvg operon of the causative agent and cell avirulent state.

[Identification of the open reading frame coding transposase of Bordetella pertussis RS-element].

[Steroidogenesis in patients with various adrenal and gonadal dysfunctions].

The paper deals with the results of investigations of steroidogenesis in patients with ACTH-dependent Icenko-Cushing's disease (CD), congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), and stromal hyperthecosis (SH). Along with the traditional methods of evaluating the activity of steroid-producing glands (diurnal variations of steroid hormones and their precursors in the peripheral blood, their mean daily concentrations), the authors used a simultaneous selective catheterization technique for adrenal and ovarian veins. No pronounced circadian rhythms were revealed in most of the steroids measured in patients with CD.

[Comparative characteristics of steroidogenesis and its biorhythm in the hyperfunctioning adrenal cortex].

The paper summarizes the results od several studies of the daily rhythms of steroid hormones in patients with ACTH-dependent Itsenko-Cushing's disease (CD) and congenital adrenal hyperplasia (late-onset forms) (CAH). Normal daily rhythms of adrenal C21- and C19-steroids and ACTH were observed in 23.5% of CD patients.

[Interconnection of interleukin-1 and glucocorticoid hormones in regulating the immune response].

IL-1 and hydrocortisone have an opposite and competitive effect on the lymphocyte proliferation in cell culture. In mice recombinant human IL-1 beta dose-dependently induces high level serum corticosterone. Injection of IL-1 beta or hydrocortisone led to a similar alterations in the thymus: reduction of cellularity and decrease in spontaneous thymocyte proliferation.

[Comparative characterization of radioimmunologic and non-isotopic methods of hormonal analysis].

Measurements of 8 hormones (prolactin, FSH, LH, thyrotropic hormone--TTH, estradiol, hydrocortisone, thyroxine, and triiodothyronine--T3) were carried out by the Amerleit system and radioimmunoassay. The hormones were measured in the same blood plasma samples of patients with various endocrine conditions, admitted for examinations to the Endocrinology Center of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. Employment of the Amerleit system for hormonal analysis helps obtain the results compatible with the results of RIA for the majority of the measured hormones.

[The effect of ethacrynic acid on the functions of the gastrointestinal tract].

During in vitro and in situ experiments ethacrynic acid was shown to reduce the gastric secretion in rats, motility of the small intestine in rats and mice, contractions of the ileum of guinea pigs in response to histamine and acetylcholine. The intestinal water and electrolyte absorption in rats decreased too. All these effects of ethacrynic acid are extrarenal.

[Role of sex hormones in the development of atherogenic dyslipoproteinemia in boys of pubertal age].

Interrelationships of hypercholesterolemia (HCS), hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) or hypo-alpha-cholesterolemia (hypo-CS HDL) and the blood levels of sex hormones were investigated in boys aged 14-15 to detect variations in the levels of sex hormones to define groups of adolescents at the highest risk of developing atherogenic dyslipoproteinemia (DLP). A conclusion has been made that HCS and hypo-CS HDL development is associated with changes in the blood levels of testosterone and estradiol, and a low blood level of T in HTG is of secondary origin with regard to the development of this type of DLP.

[Diagnosis and surgical treatment of pathological venous drainage from the cavernous bodies of the penis].

In examination of 50 patients with impotence, pathological venous drainage (PVD) was revealed in 11 of them. Perfusion graded cavernosometry/cavernosography is the only method by which PVD can be detected and studied thoroughly. Analysis of the cavernosograms revealed a sphincter of the deep dorsal vein of the penis, the dysfunction of which in 10 of the 11 patients was the cause of PVD; in 5 of these patients the dysfunction was combined with excessive development of the subcutaneous veins of the penis.

Most complete information on vascular components of erection can be obtained by using three methods: a pharmacological test for creation of artificial passive erection, roentgen-contrast arterio-cavernography on both sides, perfusion graded cavernometry and cavernography. [Surgical treatment of impotence of vascular origin].

Examination of 50 patients suffering from impotence of vascular genesis included selective angiography of the penis conducted against the background of artificially induced erection, Doppler sonography of the penis and angiography and measurement of the corpora cavernosa. The following causes of impairment of erection were revealed: abnormal venous drainage of corpora cavernosa, derangement of arterial inflow due to occlusion of the aorta, iliac arteries, internal iliac artery, internal pudendal and penile arteries. Surgical correction was aimed at elimination of abnormal venous drainage, inclusion in the major blood flow of the internal iliac arteries and shunting of the penile arteries.

[Sex hormones in dyslipoproteinemias and disorders of arterial blood pressure in boys 11-12 years of age].

A survey of boys with hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, hypo-alpha-cholesterolemia, a combination of hypo-alpha-cholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia, and hyperalphacholesterolemia, and control subjects from two Moscow districts demonstrated significantly elevated plasma testosterone and estradiol values in boys with hypo-alphacholesterolemia. Increased estradiol was also found in boys with hypercholesterolemia and hyperalphacholesterolemia. An inverse relationship between plasma testosterone level and high density lipoprotein (HDLP) cholesterol, and a direct relationship between the estradiol/testosterone ratio and HDLP cholesterol were established.

[Clinico-morphologic and electron microscopic characteristics of chemodectoma of the neck].

Chemodectoma of the neck is one of the rare tumors occurring in man. The paper presents an observation of cervical chemodectoma found in a patient aged 31 years. For preoperative differential diagnosis, carotid angiography, ultrasound and radioisotopic examinations were used, which allowed the tumor located at the bifurcation of the left carotid artery to be diagnosed.
