Background: Post-operative radiosurgery (SRS) of brain metastases patients is typically planned on a post-recovery MRI, 2-4 weeks after resection. However, the intracranial metastasis may (re-)grow in this period. Background: Surgical management of extensive skull base tumors, such as chordoma and chondrosarcoma, remains very challenging. The need for gross total removal to improve survival must be weighed against the risk of injury to neurovascular structures and the loss of stability at the craniovertebral junction. Background: Novel audiovisual feedback methods were developed to improve image guidance during skull base surgery by providing audiovisual warnings when the drill tip enters a protective perimeter set at a distance around anatomic structures ("distance control") and visualizing bone drilling ("virtual drilling").
