Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the use of RGB drone imagery and deep learning techniques to assess plant maturity, stand count, and height, comparing these methods with traditional practices for improved efficiency and accuracy.
  • A hybrid CNN-LSTM model was developed to predict relative maturity of dry beans, while the Faster R-CNN algorithm was utilized to detect early-stage plant counts, both demonstrating superior performance over conventional methods.
  • The research indicates that combining drone data with environmental factors like growing degree days enhances model accuracy, and offers tools and software that could greatly benefit researchers in plant phenotyping.

The aim of the present study was to analyze palatal marginal alveolar exostosis (PMAE) and palatal torus (PT). Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) of the maxilla in multiplanar sections and volumetric renderings were used to assess this. PT and PMAE were classified according to location and morphology.

Background: Little is known on how the substitution of time spent in sedentary behavior (SB) patterns with time spent in physical activity impacts cardiovascular risk factors during adolescence. The study aimed to investigate how the substitution of time spent in SB and sedentary bouts with time spent in different physical activity intensities was associated with longitudinal changes in cardiovascular risk factors in analyses stratified by sex.

Methods: This is a prospective cohort study with a mean follow-up period of 3.

Article Synopsis
  • 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is commonly used to treat gastrointestinal cancers, but severe toxicity can occur due to exposure factors related to the DPD enzyme, which is influenced by the DPYD gene.
  • A study involving 47 patients assessed their 5-FU plasma levels, DPD activity, and DPYD gene variations to explore possible correlations with toxicity.
  • Results indicated high rates of anemia and neutropenia among patients, with many having plasma levels outside the therapeutic range, suggesting a need for personalized treatment strategies based on DPD assessments to minimize toxicity risks.

This article presents the rare case of a patient with gemination and fusion involving conical supernumerary teeth and the second mandibular molar, along with its treatment. The 13-year-old girl, without any associated syndromes and currently undergoing orthodontic treatment, was referred for evaluation due to the presence of a supernumerary tooth. Following a clinical examination and analysis of a panoramic radiograph, a cone beam computed tomography was requested for a more detailed assessment of the supernumerary tooth and its relationship with adjacent structures.

Dentoalveolar trauma is an important etiologic factor for tooth loss. A multidisciplinary approach to treatment is necessary because the functional, esthetic, and psychosocial problems that result from dentoalveolar trauma can significantly influence the patient's quality of life. The objective of this article is to describe the multidisciplinary treatment of a 39-year-old man who experienced dentoalveolar trauma in a bicycle accident.

Objective: The aim of this study was to perform a cross-cultural adaptation of the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale in Exclusive Breastfeeding for use in a Brazilian-Portuguese context.

Methods: The cross-cultural adaptation process involved the translation from original English into Brazilian Portuguese by two qualified and independent translators. Both translations were synthesized into a single version that was back-translated into English.

Background: Recent statistical approaches have allowed consideration of the integrated relationships between sedentary behavior (SB) and physical activity (PA) with different health outcomes. The present paper aimed to systematically review the literature and synthesize evidence about associations between hypothetical reallocations from SB to different PA intensities and cardiovascular risk factors in youth.

Methods: A systematic search of 8 databases was performed.

This article reports the treatment of 2 cases of mandibular third molar displacement into deep fascial spaces during attempted extraction, 1 of which resulted in acute infection. In addition to treatment approaches, the article reviews the risk factors for tooth displacement and techniques that may be used for its prevention. In both of the reported cases, after tooth extraction procedures resulted in the displacement of a third molar, the correct location of the tooth was ascertained by 3-dimensional imaging.

The objective of this case report is to describe the treatment of a dentofacial and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) deformity by means of reconstruction with a customized TMJ prosthesis and orthognathic surgery. The article discusses the therapeutic approach and the importance of functional and esthetic rehabilitation of the patient. A 22-year-old man displayed sequelae of osteomyelitis diagnosed at 6 years of age, including facial asymmetry, laterognathism, unsatisfactory occlusion, and mandibular retrognathism.

Article Synopsis
  • - Lymphangiomas are benign tumors resembling lymphatic vessel growths, stemming from abnormalities in lymphatic tissue, and they can vary in their connection to the lymphatic system.
  • - Treatment options include surgery, sclerotherapy, cryotherapy, lasers, steroids, and bleomycin, but surgery can lead to significant complications and loss of function.
  • - In a case study of a 5-year-old with a large tongue lymphangioma, conservative treatments like laser therapy and cryotherapy were chosen to avoid severe damage, resulting in preserved functions and controlled growth after 8 years.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effects of Foley catheter combined with misoprostol in the labor induction process.

Methods: This is a nonblinded, block randomized, controlled trial that compared the association between transcervical Foley catheter/vaginal misoprostol 25 μg combination and vaginal misoprostol 25 μg alone in normal-risk and healthy pregnant women undergoing labor induction in the south of Brazil.

Results: A total of 230 patients with indications for labor induction were evaluated and classified into the "combined" group (Foley catheter plus misoprostol), consisting of 107 patients, and the "misoprostol" group (misoprostol only), consisting of 123 patients.

Background: Placental heart development and embryonic heart development occur in parallel, and these organs have been proposed to exert reciprocal regulation during gestation. Poor placentation has been associated with congenital heart disease, an important cause of infant mortality. However, the mechanisms by which altered placental development can lead to congenital heart disease remain unresolved.

Background: Recently some articles presented information related to the possible effect of maturity over the cognitive control and cardiorespiratory fitness, however little is known about the real effects of maturity in the relation of these variables. In this sense, the purpose of this study was to examine the potential mediating role of somatic maturity on the association between cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and cognitive control.

Methods: This three-year longitudinal research comprises two data collection groups: a baseline conducted in 2016 with 394 adolescents (aged 11.

Introduction: It is known that side effects caused by antineoplastic therapy can affect patients' quality of life (QOL). However, the long-term effects on patients' quality of life are not well known. This study aimed to evaluate patients' quality of life who underwent radiotherapy for head and neck cancer lasting more than six months compared to individuals who did not experience treatment.

Hereditary gingival fibromatosis is the most common genetic form of gingival fibromatosis that develops as a slow, progressive, benign, localized, or generalized enlargement of the keratinized gingiva. It is a genetically heterogeneous disorder transmitted as an autosomal dominant or autosomal recessive trait or appears sporadically. Here, we report a case of a male patient with generalized gingival hyperplasia with great tissue extension to the palatal region, bilateral mandibular torus, bilateral exostosis in the maxillary posterior region, anterior open bite, and diastema in anterior maxilla and mandible teeth.
