We demonstrate that amplitude modulation of a high-peak-power femtosecond laser pulse allows to change fundamentally the frequency-angular structure (FAS) of the supercontinuum formed during the filamentation in both molecular and atomic gases. Particularly, modulation with a 4-hole mask forms an inverted pattern of conical emission (CE) with its predominance in the Stokes wing of the pulse spectrum. We explain this phenomenon as a joint effect of self-phase modulation and temporal pulse splitting of interfering beamlets formed by the modulating mask.

The evolution of a multilayer sample surface during focused ion beam processing was simulated using the level set method and experimentally studied by milling a silicon dioxide layer covering a crystalline silicon substrate. The simulation took into account the redeposition of atoms simultaneously sputtered from both layers of the sample as well as the influence of backscattered ions on the milling process. Monte Carlo simulations were applied to produce tabulated data on the angular distributions of sputtered atoms and backscattered ions.

The history of rDNA research started almost 90 years ago when the geneticist, Barbara McClintock observed that in interphase nuclei of maize the nucleolus was formed in association with a specific region normally located near the end of a chromosome, which she called the nucleolar organizer region (NOR). Cytologists in the twentieth century recognized the nucleolus as a common structure in all eukaryotic cells, using both light and electron microscopy and biochemical and genetic studies identified ribosomes as the subcellular sites of protein synthesis. In the mid- to late 1960s, the synthesis of nuclear-encoded rRNA was the only system in multicellular organisms where transcripts of known function could be isolated, and their synthesis and processing could be studied.

We compare transverse structure evolution and energy deposition into the medium within focused multifilament arrays created using two different types of diffraction optical elements (DOEs): TEM phase plate and a Dammann grating. We show that the employment of the Dammann grating provides a robust way to create regular multifilament arrays, which is far less dependent on laser beam quality than one using the phase plate.

PAI genotyping for the G43A and 4G/5G polymorphisms was performed in 60 patients with peptic ulcer disease: 12 with an uncomplicated ulcer, 5 with perforation, the rest with ongoing bleeding. The article proposes a new way for visualization of mesopores and quantitative evaluation of the pore structure in zeolite crystals. The approach is based on platinum tracking inside the zeolite material after its incorporation from a gaseous precursor using an electron beam prior to preparing a TEM specimen by the focused ion beam technique. ISSR-PCR markers were used to assess genetic diversity and to elucidate relatedness among 21 Ukrainian and 3 West European sweet cherry varieties, which are widely cultivated in Ukraine. The discriminatory potential was tested for 11 ISSR-PCR primers, which produced 193 amplicons. UBC 835, 836, 841 and 881 were identified as the best primers suitable for routine application.

In order to clarify molecular organization of the genomic region encoding 5S rRNA in diploid species Rosa rugosa several 5S rDNA repeated units were cloned and sequenced. Analysis of the obtained sequences revealed that only one length variant of 5S rDNA repeated units, which contains intact promoter elements in the intergenic spacer region (IGS) and appears to be transcriptionally active is present in the genome. Additionally, a limited number of 5S rDNA pseudogenes lacking a portion of coding sequence and the complete IGS was detected.

Uniparental activity of ribosomal RNA genes (rDNA) in interspecific hybrids is known as nucleolar dominance (ND). To see if difference in rDNA intergenic spacers (IGS) might be correlated with ND, we have used artificial Solanum allopolyploids and back-crossed lines.
