Collagen plays a critical role in regulating breast cancer progression and therapeutic resistance. An improved understanding of both the features and drivers of tumor-permissive and -restrictive collagen matrices are critical to improve prognostication and develop more effective therapeutic strategies. In this study, using a combination of in vitro, in vivo and bioinformatic experiments, we show that type III collagen (Col3) plays a tumor-restrictive role in human breast cancer.

Despite effective antibiotic therapy, brain-destructive inflammation often cannot be avoided in pneumococcal meningitis. The causative signals are mediated predominantly through TLR-recruited myeloid differentiation primary response adaptor 88 (MyD88), as indicated by a dramatic pneumococcal meningitis phenotype of Myd88-/- mice. Background: Gastric sleeve stenosis (GSS) is an adverse event following sleeve gastrectomy for which objective tools are needed for diagnosis and treatment. Endoscopic treatment with serial pneumatic balloon dilation may relieve symptoms and prevent the need for conversion to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Endoluminal functional impedance planimetry (EndoFLIP) is an endoscopic tool that measures luminal diameter and distensibility indices (DI) and could be used to characterize severity of GSS.

TGFβ is a key regulator of the dynamic reciprocity between cells and the extracellular matrix that drives physiologic and pathologic responses in both tissue repair and tumor microenvironments. Our studies define type III Collagen (Col3) as a suppressor of scar formation and desmoplasia through its effects, in part, on myofibroblasts. TGFβ stimulates activation of myofibroblasts, and here, we demonstrate that cultured Col3-deficient fibroblasts have increased TGFβ signaling compared to wild-type fibroblasts.

In the past decade, the potential to translate scientific discoveries in the area of regenerative therapeutics in veterinary species to novel, effective human therapies has gained interest from the scientific and public domains. Translational research using a One Health approach provides a fundamental link between basic biomedical research and medical clinical practice, with the goal of developing strategies for curing or preventing disease and ameliorating pain and suffering in companion animals and humans alike. The objective of this pooled statistical analysis was to evaluate Syngenta Enogen Feed Corn (EFC) versus conventional corn (CON) when fed as either dry-rolled corn (DRC) or high-moisture corn (HMC) for effects on finishing beef cattle performance and carcass characteristics. Corns were evaluated in diets with byproduct inclusion rates of 0, 15, 18, 20, and 30% distiller grains or 25 and 35% Sweet Bran (a commercial corn gluten feed product). Seven trials ( = 1856) consisting of 200 pen means comparing 26 diet treatments were analyzed using regression in a pooled analysis.
