Introduction: Falls and fall-related injuries in community-dwelling older adults are a growing global health concern. Despite effective exercise-based fall prevention programs (FPPs), low enrollment rates persist due to negative connotations associated with falls and aging. This study aimed to investigate whether positive framing in communication leads to a higher intention to participate in an FPP among community-dwelling older adults.

While technology leaders are calling for a pause on developing AI systems until there is greater confidence "that their effects will be positive and their risks will be manageable," (Pause Giant AI Experiments: An Open Letter. Objectives: To characterize the histopathologic features of colitis in patients with impaired renal function.
Methods: We retrospectively identified 413 patients who underwent colonoscopic evaluation for colitis between 2011 and 2015. Patients were divided into four groups based on estimated glomerular filtrate rates.
Objective: Diabetes mellitus type 1 (T1D) incidence is increasing in pediatric population. Good metabolic control, measured by glycated hemoglobin (HbA), significantly reduces the risk for chronic complications. Comorbid disorders, including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), may influence glycemic control.

These cues can express paralinguistic mental states or grammatical meaning, and we show that in American Sign Language (ASL), they also exhibit the function, scope, and alignment of prosodic, linguistic elements of sign languages. The production and comprehension of prosodic facial expressions and temporal patterns therefore can shed light on how cues are grammaticalized in sign languages.

Ecosystem functions and services may exhibit portfolio-type dynamics, whereby diversity within lower levels promotes stability at more aggregated levels. Portfolio theory provides a framework to characterize the relative performance among ecosystems and the processes that drive differences in performance.

Purpose: Male infertility is a complex health condition. To our knowledge there are no molecular biomarkers of male infertility. Sperm RNA is a potential biomarker for detecting sperm abnormalities and viability at infertility clinics.

Despite their importance in Ca(2+) signaling and lipid trafficking, the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation and functions of ER-PM junctions remain unclear. By developing a genetically encoded marker that selectively monitors ER-PM junctions, we found that the connection between ER and PM was dynamically regulated by Ca(2+) signaling.

Our previous work has characterized MDM2-A as an activator of p53, and therefore, in a wild-type p53 background, this splice variant would be predicted to confer p53-dependent tumor protection. To test this hypothesis, we used Mdm2-a transgenic mice to assess transformation and tumorigenesis in tumor susceptible murine models.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMDM2 is the predominant negative regulator of p53 that functions to maintain the appropriate level of expression and activity of this central tumor suppressor. Mdm2-a is a commonly identified splice variant of Mdm2; however, its physiological function is unclear. To gain insight into the activity of MDM2-A and its potential impact on p53, an Mdm2-a transgenic mouse model was generated.

However, MDM2 has many other binding partners and its p53-independent role in the regulation of cell growth and survival appears to be extremely complex. This report describes the expression of MDM2 in two rhabdomyosarcoma cell lines, both expressing a mutant p53 gene.

In addition, an independent function in membrane fusion has been suggested in vacuolar fusion in yeast and synaptic vesicle exocytosis in fly neurons. Evidence for a direct role in secretion has also recently been presented in mouse and worm.

Objective: To identify salivary gland FNA cases with poor performance characteristics in the Nongynecologic Cytology Program surveys, so that the most common diagnostic pitfalls can be avoided.
Design: A retrospective review of the College of American Pathologists Nongynecologic Cytology Program's cumulative data from 1999 to 2003 revealed the most common false-positive and false-negative interpretations on FNA for common salivary gland lesions.
Context: Body cavity fluid examination presents a common and sometimes difficult diagnostic challenge in daily cytology practice. Separating benign from malignant cellular changes may require meticulous screening, careful scrutiny of cellular features, and an understanding of the range of reactive changes. We use the data from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Interlaboratory Comparison Program in Nongynecologic Cytology (NGC) to identify characteristics of fluids that place them at opposite ends of the diagnostic spectrum.

Objective: To compare pathologists' ability to correctly identify and categorize adenocarcinoma in situ with their ability to identify and categorize adenocarcinoma, high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion, and squamous cell carcinoma.
The existence of an ATP-dependent methotrexate (MTX) efflux mechanism has long been postulated; however, until recently, the molecular components were largely unknown. We have previously demonstrated a role for the ATP-binding cassette transporter breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP) in MTX resistance (Volk et al., Cancer Res.

We report on the FNA findings in a 61-yr-old male of an osteolytic sacral lesion, which determined the diagnosis of an unsuspected metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma. In this case, the diagnosis was confirmed by FNA biopsy without resorting to surgical biopsy.

The resistant cell line, MCF7/VP, expresses high levels of MRP1, whereas the parental cell line, MCF7/WT, does not. MCF7/VP cells are 6-10-fold cross-resistant to MX when compared with MCF7/WT cells.

Fungal lesions are among nonneoplastic lesions of the lung in which FNAC has proven a useful technique in both immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients. These include cryptococcosis, aspergillosis, histoplasmosis and coccidiodomycosis.
