: Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) presents challenges in treatment due to its varied course and unclear etiology. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of combining proximal femoral varus osteotomy (PFVO) with a modified trochanteric flip osteotomy to address biomechanical consequences and improve hip abductor muscle strength. : We present a modified approach combining PFVO with a trochanteric flip osteotomy.

Affected individuals have limited range of motion of the shoulder and torticollis. Surgical reconstruction is an option to treat patients with severe deformity and functional impairment.

Methods: The SARC-HD is a cohort study being conducted with patients on hemodialysis in Brazil.
Objective: Adrenomedullin (ADM) is a potent vasodilator. The association between plasma ADM levels and blood pressure (BP) remains unclear. We assessed the association between mid-regional-pro-ADM (MR-proADM) and BP in a multicenter population- and family-based cohort.

Methods: We analyzed the early complications of 2379 consecutive individuals who donated a kidney between January 1998 and June 2022 and assessed their health-related quality of life (HRQoL) 1 y after donation.
Results: In total, 447 early complications in 404/2379 LK donors (17.
Coacervates represent models for membrane-free protocells and thus provide a simple route to synthetic cellular-like systems that provide selective encapsulation of solutes. Here, we demonstrate a simple and versatile post-coacervation crosslink method using the thiol-ene click reaction in aqueous media to prepare covalently crosslinked coacervates. The crosslinking of the coacervate enables stability at extreme pH where the uncrosslinked coacervate fully disassembles.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFungal peritonitis is a somewhat rare yet serious complication associated with peritoneal dialysis (PD). It requires prompt diagnosis and treatment to prevent unnecessary morbidity and mortality. We present an unusual presentation that highlights the consequences of delayed diagnosis and management and propose methods for improving care for patients receiving peritoneal dialysis.

September 2024
Background: Abnormal angular and torsional alignment of the lower extremities during growth are a common reason for consultation of a paediatrician or orthopaedist. There is often uncertainty about the pathological value of these abnormalities and the need for treatment, even among specialists. In the course of physiological growth and development processes, the axial and torsional alignment of the legs sometimes change considerably and in characteristic patterns.

It feels like guided growth has been looked at from every angle, and still there are new emerging concepts like rotational guided growth waiting to be validated. New hexapod external devices are more accurate and easier to use, and new unilateral fixators allow for more versatile and stable fixation and lengthening.

It is often encountered early after KT, may persist longer, and is frequently promoted by calcineurin inhibitors (CNIs) and tubular leakage. Studies demonstrated an association between post-KT hypomagnesemia and allograft dysfunction.

This spares typical complications of external fixators but requires precise preoperative planning and exact intraoperative execution. To date, its results are insufficiently reported.

Subsequent analysis revealed that cells respond to AAV infection through changes in several significantly affected pathways, including cell cycle regulation, chromatin modulation, and innate immune responses. Various assays were performed to validate selected differentially expressed genes and to confirm not only the quality but also the robustness of the raw data.

Although VGC dose adjustments based on renal function are recommended, there is paucity of real-life data on VGC dosing and associations with clinical outcomes. This is a retrospective Swiss Transplant Cohort Study-embedded observational study, including all adult D+/R- and R+/TG KTR between 2010 and 2020, who received prophylaxis with VGC.
