A Motion-Activated Video Game for Prevention of Substance Use Disorder Relapse in Youth: Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Body motion-activated video games are a promising strategy for promoting engagement in and adherence to addiction treatment among youth.

Objective: This pilot randomized trial (N=80) investigated the feasibility of a body motion-activated video game prototype, Recovery Warrior 2.0, targeting relapse prevention in the context of a community inpatient care program for youth.

Characterization of a carbapenem- and colistin-resistant carrying Tn in genomic context.

We report a clinical strain of , PIMB10EC27, isolated in Vietnam in 2010 that was resistant to 21 of 26 tested antibiotics, including carbapenems (MICs >64 µg/mL) and colistin (MIC >128 µg/mL). The complete genome of strain PIMB10EC27 was sequenced by PacBio RSII and the Illumina Miseq system. Whole-genome analysis revealed that PIMB10EC27 contains a chromosome of the ST513 group (PIMBEC27, length 5,272,177 bp) and two plasmids, pEC27-1 of the IncX3 group (length 62,470 bp) and pEC27-2 of the IncHI1 group (length 84,602 bp).

iSPEED: a Scalable and Distributed In-Memory Based Spatial Query System for Large and Structurally Complex 3D Data.

Unlabelled: The recent technological advancement in digital pathology has enabled 3D tissue-based investigation of human diseases at extremely high resolutions. Discovering and verifying spatial patterns among massive 3D micro-anatomic biological objects such as blood vessels and cells derived from 3D pathology image volumes plays a pivotal role in understanding diseases. However, the exponential increase of available 3D data and the complex structures of biological objects make it extremely difficult to support spatial queries due to high I/O, communication and computational cost for 3D spatial queries.

Zika virus in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia: are there health risks for travelers?

Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia have reported first cases of Zika virus (ZIKV) infection since 2010 (Cambodia) and 2016 (Vietnam and Laos). One case of ZIKV-related microcephaly was recognized among a hundred infected cases in these areas, raising a great concern about the health risk related to this virus infection. At least 5 cases of ZIKV infection among travelers to Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia were recorded.

Role of fibroblast growth factor 23 and klotho cross talk in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, progressive fibrosing interstitial pneumonia that mainly affects the elderly. Several reports have demonstrated that aging is involved in the underlying pathogenic mechanisms of IPF. α-Klotho (KL) has been well characterized as an "age-suppressing" hormone and can provide protection against cellular senescence and oxidative stress.

Klotho deficiency affects the spine morphology and network synchronization of neurons.

Klotho-deficient mice rapidly develop cognitive impairment and show some evidence of the onset of neurodegeneration. However, it is impossible to investigate the long-term consequences on the brain because of the dramatic shortening of lifespan caused by systemic klotho deficiency. As klotho expression is downregulated with advancing organismal age, understanding the mechanisms of klotho action is important for developing novel strategies to support healthy brain aging.

Simple Ex Vivo Porcine Kidney Model for Teaching Ultrasound-Guided Intervention.

The purpose of this study is to describe the use of a novel, cost-effective, gelatin ex vivo porcine kidney model for renal interventions performed using ultrasound guidance. Percutaneous ultrasound-guided renal interventions are common procedures in radiology. Use of models helps trainees develop the hand-eye coordination needed to successfully perform interventional techniques.

Protocol for a randomised trial evaluating the comparative effectiveness of strategies to promote shared decision making for hip and knee osteoarthritis (DECIDE-OA study).

Introduction: There are several different interventions available to promote shared decision making (SDM); however, little is known about the comparative effectiveness of different approaches.

Objective: To examine the impact of patient-directed and physician-directed decision support strategies on the quality of treatment decisions for hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA).

Trial Design: A 2×2 factorial randomised controlled trial.

The interactive effect of the season and estuary position on the concentration of persistent organic pollutants in water and sediment from the Cua Dai estuary in Vietnam.

The current study was conducted in the Cua Dai estuary, Vietnam, (1) to assess the status of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and (2) to examine the interactive effect of season and estuary position on the concentration of the pollutants in surface water and sediment. Fifty-two water and sediment samples were taken in the dry and rainy seasons from inner- and outer-estuary positions to analyze for six POPs, including hexachlorocyclohexane isomers (HCHs), dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane and its metabolites (DDTs), heptachlor, aldrin, dieldrin, and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCBs). The averaged concentrations of the respective POPs in water samples were 0.

Bayesian Estimation for Stochastic Gene Expression Using Multifidelity Models.

The finite state projection (FSP) approach to solving the chemical master equation has enabled successful inference of discrete stochastic models to predict single-cell gene regulation dynamics. Unfortunately, the FSP approach is highly computationally intensive for all but the simplest models, an issue that is highly problematic when parameter inference and uncertainty quantification takes enormous numbers of parameter evaluations. To address this issue, we propose two new computational methods for the Bayesian inference of stochastic gene expression parameters given single-cell experiments.

A comparison of deterministic and stochastic approaches for sensitivity analysis in computational systems biology.

With the recent rising application of mathematical models in the field of computational systems biology, the interest in sensitivity analysis methods had increased. The stochastic approach, based on chemical master equations, and the deterministic approach, based on ordinary differential equations (ODEs), are the two main approaches for analyzing mathematical models of biochemical systems. In this work, the performance of these approaches to compute sensitivity coefficients is explored in situations where stochastic and deterministic simulation can potentially provide different results (systems with unstable steady states, oscillators with population extinction and bistable systems).

Percutaneous Nephroureteral Tube: A Useful Tool for Management of Intractable Hematuria.

Objective: To describe our experience using percutaneous nephroureteral (PCNU) tube placement for the management of intractable gross hematuria.

Methods: We identified patients at our institution who underwent PCNU tube placement from August 2011 to October 2017 for management of gross hematuria who had previously failed management with manual irrigation, continuous bladder irrigation, and cystoscopy with clot evacuation. The primary outcome measured was cessation of bleeding obviating the need for further blood transfusion in a 30 day follow-up period.

Identification of the pollutants' removal and mechanism by microalgae in saline wastewater.

This study investigated the growth dynamics of a freshwater and marine microalgae with supported biochemical performance in saline wastewater, the pollutants assimilation by a developed method, and the mechanism of salinity's effect to pollutants assimilation. Maximal biomass yield was 400-500 mg/L at 0.1-1% salinity while the TOC, NO-N, PO-P were eliminated 39.

Influenza B associated paediatric acute respiratory infection hospitalization in central vietnam.

Background: Influenza B is one of the major etiologies for acute respiratory infections (ARI) among children worldwide; however, its clinical-epidemiological information is limited. We aimed to investigate the hospitalization incidence and clinical-epidemiological characteristics of influenza B-associated paediatric ARIs in central Vietnam.

Methods: We collected clinical-epidemiological information and nasopharyngeal swabs from ARI children hospitalized at Khanh Hoa General Hospital, Nha Trang, Vietnam from February 2007 through June 2013.

Working Memory Training for Adolescents With Cannabis Use Disorders: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Adolescent cannabis use is associated with working memory impairment. The present randomized controlled trial assigned adolescents ages 14 to 21 enrolled in cannabis use treatment to receive either working memory training (experimental group) or a control training (control group) as an adjunctive treatment. Cognitive function, drug use, and other outcomes were assessed before and after training.

Clinical manifestations of congenital rubella syndrome: A review of our experience in Vietnam.

Rubella vaccination programs have dramatically reduced the incidence of rubella and congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) in developed countries. However, CRS prevalence is still rising in developing countries where rubella-containing vaccines (RCV) are not included in the immunization program and even in some countries where a part of the population lacks immunity to rubella despite the presence of RCV in the regular immunization program. This review aimed to summarize the clinical features of CRS using data from our studies conducted between 2011 and 2015 in Vietnam, wherein we examined clinical manifestations in Vietnamese children with CRS who were born after the large rubella outbreak of 2011; a series of studies dealing with CRS in North America and Europe after the 1960s epidemic; and those from countries before introduction of RCVs.

A critical review on designs and applications of microalgae-based photobioreactors for pollutants treatment.

The development of the photobioreactors (PBs) is recently noticeable as cutting-edge technology while the correlation of PBs' engineered elements such as modellings, configurations, biomass yields, operating conditions and pollutants removal efficiency still remains complex and unclear. A systematic understanding of PBs is therefore essential. This critical review study is to: (1) describe the modelling approaches and differentiate the outcomes; (2) review and update the novel technical issues of PBs' types; (3) study microalgae growth and control determined by PBs types with comparison made; (4) progress and compare the efficiencies of contaminants removal given by PBs' types and (5) identify the future perspectives of PBs.

Klotho, the Key to Healthy Brain Aging?

Brain expression of klotho was first described with the initial discovery of the klotho gene. The prominent age-regulating effects of klotho are attributed to regulation of ion homeostasis through klotho function in the kidney. However, recent advances identified brain functions and cell populations, including adult hippocampal neural progenitors, which require klotho.

Accurate, strong, and stable reporting of choroid plexus epithelial cells in transgenic mice using a human transthyretin BAC.

Background: Choroid plexus epithelial cells express high levels of transthyretin, produce cerebrospinal fluid and many of its proteins, and make up the blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier. Choroid plexus epithelial cells are vital to brain health and may be involved in neurological diseases. Transgenic mice containing fluorescent and luminescent reporters of these cells would facilitate their study in health and disease, but prior transgenic reporters lost expression over the early postnatal period.

SparkGIS: Resource Aware Efficient In-Memory Spatial Query Processing.

Much effort has been devoted to support high performance spatial queries on large volumes of spatial data in distributed spatial computing systems, especially in the MapReduce paradigm. Recent works have focused on extending spatial MapReduce frameworks to leverage high performance in-memory distributed processing capabilities of systems such as Spark. However, the performance advantage comes with the requirement of having enough memory and comprehensive configuration.

Synthesis and Characterization of Advanced Nanomaterials: Tin-Doped Indium Oxide (ITO) and Platinium Deposited on Tin-Doped Indium Oxide (Pt/ITO).

This article describes the synthesis and characterization of tin-doped indium oxide (ITO) and platinum nanoparticles deposited on ITO. For different calcination temperatures, the tin-doped indium oxide nanoparticles (ITO NPs) were synthesized successfully by a nonaqueous sol-gel method with indium acetylacetonate and tin bis(acetylacetonate) dichloride in oleylamine as the precursors. The ITO sample that calcinated at 500 °C exhibited a spherical morphology with a narrow range of the particle size distribution (15-20 nm).

Alum/Toll-Like Receptor 7 Adjuvant Enhances the Expansion of Memory B Cell Compartment Within the Draining Lymph Node.

Vaccination is one of the most cost-effective health interventions and, with the exception of water sanitization, no other action has had such a major effect in mortality reduction. Combined with other approaches, such as clean water, better hygiene, and health education, vaccination contributed to prevent millions of cases of deaths among children under 5 years of age. New or improved vaccines are needed to fight some vaccine-preventable diseases that are still a threat for the public health globally, as reported also in the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP) endorsed by the World Health Assembly in 2012.
