Although effectiveness of Resective Epilepsy Surgery (RES) for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) is widely proven, research on the impact of societal costs (SC) is lacking. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the anterior nucleus of the thalamus (ANT) is a promising treatment for patients with refractory epilepsy. As a large number of patients with epilepsy do not respond favorably to antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), a better understanding of treatment failure and the cause of adverse side effects is required.
