Article Synopsis
  • A chemical plant in Chapaevsk, Russia, has been linked to significant dioxin contamination in the environment since 1967, affecting air, soil, drinking water, and food sources.
  • In a 1998 study, 24 local volunteers provided blood samples and personal data to assess nonoccupational dioxin exposure, revealing alarming levels of dioxins in their blood.
  • Residents living within 5 km of the plant exhibited higher blood dioxin concentrations than those farther away, suggesting that chronic exposure to these contaminants could lead to serious health issues.
