-Heart rate variability (HRV) and photoplethysmographic waveform variability (PPGV) are available approaches for assessing the state of cardiovascular autonomic regulation. The goal of our study was to compare the frequency-domain features and low-frequency (LF) synchronization of the PPGV and HRV with increasing severity of cardiovascular diseases. -Our study included 998 electrocardiogram (ECG) and finger photoplethysmogram (PPG) recordings from subjects, classified into five categories: 53 recordings from healthy subjects, aged 28.

Introduction: Surgical treatment of aortic coarctation in low-birth-weight (LBW) neonates is associated with risks of higher hospital mortality rates and recoarctation development in the long-term. The goal of our study was to compare the results of surgical treatment of aortic coarctation in LBW neonates and normal-weight patients, to identify predictors of recoarctation in the long-term among LBW patients.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective study was performed to analyse the patients who had undergone resection of isolated aortic coarctation between 2005 and 2022.

Introduction: The pathogenesis of aortic stenosis includes the processes of chronic inflammation, calcification, lipid metabolism disorders, and congenital structural changes. The goal of our study was to determine the predictive value of novel biomarkers of systemic inflammation and some hematological indices based on the numbers of leukocytes and their subtypes in the development of early hospital medical conditions after mechanical aortic valve replacement in patients with aortic stenosis.

Materials And Methods: This was a cohort study involving 363 patients who underwent surgical intervention for aortic valve pathology between 2014 and 2020.

In patients who underwent cardiac surgery, first-time postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is associated with increased incidence of hospital-acquired complications and mortality. Systemic inflammation is one of confirmed triggers of its development. The anti-inflammatory properties of colchicine can be effective for the POAF prevention.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is among the expected complications of cardiac surgery. Statins with pleiotropic anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects may be effective in the prevention of AKI. However, the results of studies on the efficacy and safety of statins are varied and require further study.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed 742 patients with aortic stenosis who underwent surgical treatment from 2014 to 2020, revealing a hospital mortality rate of 3%.
  • Key risk factors for increased hospital mortality included diabetes, a BMI over 30, low hemoglobin and hematocrit levels, and longer aortic cross-clamp and cardiopulmonary bypass times.
  • The findings suggest that understanding these risk factors can help improve surgical outcomes and develop preventive measures for patients undergoing aortic valve replacement.

Background: Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is a common complication of cardiac surgery. It has been proven to be associated with an increase in the incidence of early complications and mortality, an increase in the rate of hospital stay duration, and economic costs of their treatment. One of the pharmaceutical drugs recommended by the American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) for preventing POAF is colchicine (class IIB).

The objective of this study was to study the use of the hydrogel biopolymer based on sodium alginate ("Colegel") with a drug substance-amiodarone-for the prevention of postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) in cardiac surgery. The experimental part of the study was performed on 46 rabbits. Five groups were formed: in the first group, the dose of amiodarone in hydrogel was 1 mg; in the second group-3 mg; in the third group-6 mg; in the fourth group, hydrogel was used without amiodarone; in the fifth group, 60 mg amiodarone was administered intravenously.

Article Synopsis
  • A mathematical model for autonomic control of the cardiovascular system includes two self-exciting loops regulating heart rate and blood vessel tone based on baroreceptor activity.
  • The model analyzes how a healthy cardiovascular system adapts during a passive head-up tilt test, using computer simulations to track variables that are hard to measure directly, like noradrenaline concentration and blood pressure.
  • Results show the model's predictions align closely with experimental data from 50 healthy individuals, especially focusing on low-frequency oscillations in heart rate and blood pressure synchronization.

The aim of this study was to analyze results of stenting atrioseptostomy in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension and a different level of risk for one-year mortality that is not well described. Patients that underwent atrioseptostomy with stenting were retrospectively divided in two groups: "intermediate" ( = 55) or "high" risk ( = 13), according to the 2015 ESC/ESR guideline. Results of atrioseptostomy were assessed during hospital period and at follow-up.

We studied the properties of low-frequency (LF) heart rate variability (HRV) and photoplethysmographic waveform variability (PPGV) and their interaction under conditions where the hemodynamic connection between them is obviously absent, as well as the LF regulation of PPGV in the absence of heart function. The parameters of HRV and finger PPGV were evaluated in 10 patients during cardiac surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass (on-pump cardiac surgery) with or without cardioplegia. The following spectral indices of PPGV and HRV were ertimated: the total spectral power (TP), the high-frequency (HF) and the LF ranges of TP in percents (HF% and LF%), and the LF/HF ratio.

Background: The purpose of the experiment was to study the safety of local epicardial use of the hydrogel with amiodarone, as well as the influence of its different dosages on the heart rate of mongrel rabbits.

Methods: The epicardial application of the hydrogel material with amiodarone was performed in 46 rabbits. Rabbits were divided into 5 groups: Group No.

Our aim was to perform a comparative study of short-term cardiovascular autonomic control in cardiac surgery patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) or surgical correction of valvular heart disease (SCVHD ). The synchronous 15 minutes records of heart rate variability (HRV) and finger's photoplethysmographic waveform variability (PPGV) were performed in 42 cardiac surgery patients (12 women) aged 61.8 ± 8.

We represent a case of successful surgical treatment of a rare congenital heart disease: abnormal inflow of an additional superior vena cava into the left atrium, combined with atrial septal defect, mitral and tricuspid valve regurgitation, and abnormal inflow of the left hepatic vein into a roofless coronary sinus.

The use of short message services and mobile phone technology for ambulatory care management is the most accessible and most inexpensive way to transition from traditional ambulatory care management to active ambulatory care management in patients with arterial hypertension (AH). The aim of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of active ambulatory care management supported by short message services and mobile phone technology with traditional ambulatory care management in AH patients. The study included 97 hypertensive patients under active ambulatory care management and 102 patients under traditional ambulatory care management.

Background: Synchronization between 0.1-Hz rhythms in cardiovascular system is deteriorated at acute myocardial infarction (AMI) leading to a disruption of natural functional couplings within the system of autonomic regulation.

Objective: This study evaluates the prognostic value of autonomic regulation indices for the 5-year risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events in patients after AMI.
