Characterisation of a Mesophilic Aeromonas salmonicida and the Development of a PCR to Differentiate Atypical and Typical Strains.

This study describes the identification and characterisation of a new mesophilic Aeromonas salmonicida strain, named HMes1 isolated from Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) in Tasmania. Isolates were identified as Aeromonas salmonicida through phenotypic, phylogenetic and genetic characterisation.

First identification in Tasmania of fish pathogens Tenacibaculum dicentrarchi and T. soleae and multiplex PCR for these organisms and T. maritimum.

This work describes a new polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for rapid identification of the fish pathogens Tenacibaculum dicentrarchi, T. maritimum and T. soleae, 3 organisms which can cause tenacibaculosis in farmed salmonids.
