Purpose: Squamous cell carcinoma of the anus (SCCA) incidence and mortality rates are rising in the United States. Understanding state-level incidence and mortality patterns and associations with smoking and AIDS prevalence (key risk factors) could help unravel disparities and provide etiologic clues.
Methods: Using the US Cancer Statistics and the National Center for Health Statistics data sets, we estimated state-level SCCA incidence and mortality rates.
Background: Antenatal magnesium sulfate can potentially reduce the risk of cerebral palsy in neonates delivered between 24 and 32 weeks of gestational age. Some studies using high-dose magnesium sulfate for neuroprotection have reported increased perinatal mortality.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 475 neonates born between 24 and 32 weeks of gestational age.
The purpose of this study was to determine if there are any correlations between carbamazepine serum levels of epileptic mothers during pregnancy and the brainstem auditory evoked potentials in their infants as an index of drug neurotoxicity in newborns exposed prenatally. We included 20 epileptic mothers with carbamazepine medication and their 20 otherwise healthy infants. The study was conducted from September 1, 1993, to December 15, 1999.
