Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how seasonal changes (winter vs. summer) impact oocyte (egg) quality in women struggling with infertility during in vitro fertilization.
  • Researchers analyzed 155 IVF cycles, noting significant differences in oocyte quality during summer (71 cycles) compared to winter (84 cycles), using specific quality assessment categories.
  • The results indicated that summer oocytes generally had better quality, while winter oocytes exhibited more abnormalities and lower quality, highlighting the need for further research on potential influencing factors like diet and exercise.

Introduction: Uterine leiomyomas are the most common benign pelvic tumors in women over 35 years and can be symptomatic or asymptomatic. Among the main treatment strategies, there are hormone therapy, hysterectomy, myomectomy, and uterine artery embolization (UAE), a recent and promising treatment for patients who wish to avoid hysterectomy. Ideal candidates for UAE are women with symptomatic uterine leiomyomas that present no desire for pregnancy, premenopausal and heavy menstrual bleeding, or dysmenorrhea caused by intramural fibroids.

To evaluate the effect of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) on fertility in experimental retrocervical endometriosis.  A total of 27 New Zealand rabbits were divided into three groups: endometriosis, in which endometrial implants were created; mesenchymal, in which MSCs were applied in addition to the creation of endometrial implants; and control, the group without endometriosis. Fisher's exact test was performed to compare the dichotomous qualitative variables among the groups.

Introduction: Acute myocardial infarction is a social health problem of epidemiological relevance, with high levels of morbidity and mortality. Stress is one of the modifiable risk factors that triggers acute myocardial infarction. Stress is a result of a set of physiological reactions, which when exaggerated in intensity or duration can lead to imbalances in one's organism, resulting in vulnerability to diseases.

Introduction: Most cardiomyocytes do not regenerate after myocardial infarction. Porcine small intestinal submucosa has been shown to be effective in tissue repair.

Objective: To evaluate myocardial tissue regeneration and functional effects of SIS implantation in pigs after left ventriculotomy.

Objective: To analyze the functional and anatomical-pathological effect of transplantation of bone marrow mononuclear cells associated to aquatic physical activity after myocardial infarction in rats.

Methods: Twenty-one rats were induced by myocardial infarction, through left coronary artery ligation. After a week, the animals were subjected to echocardiography for evaluation of left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF, %) and dyastolic and end systolic volume of the left ventricle (EDV, ESV, ml), randomized and the transplantation of mononuclear stem cells.

Objective: Endometriosis is a multifactorial disease of uncertain etiology. There is currently insufficient evidence to assess the participation of nutritional and anthropometric aspects and their association with systemic oxidative stress.

Study Design: Twenty-five women with endometriosis and twenty controls were selected and evaluated to determine calorie and nutrient intake, to obtain data on body composition and analyze antioxidant capacity by measuring total serum thiol levels using DTNB (5,5'-dithiobis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid).

Context And Objective: Diagnoses of endometriosis are based on observation of endometriotic lesions by means of laparoscopy, along with the pathological findings. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the macroscopic findings in relation to the histopathological findings. More specifically, we aimed to test the efficacy of laparoscopy alone for diagnosing endometriosis and to evaluate the laterality of endometriosis among the study population.
