Aim: To use more representative sample size to evaluate whether computed tomography (CT) scan evidence of the concomitant presence of pneumatosis and portomesenteric venous gas is a predictor of transmural bowel necrosis.
Methods: Data from 208 patients who were referred for a diagnosis of bowel ischemia were retrospectively reviewed. Only patients who underwent a surgical intervention following a diagnosis of bowel ischemia who also had a post-operative histological confirmation of such a diagnosis were included.

Background: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate the predictive value of free air (on a plain radiograph) for bowel perforation in a large prospective cohort of surgical patients.
Methods: All consecutive patients undergoing abdominal surgery between January 2011 and June 2012 were screened for this study. We performed an upright chest radiograph on the second and third postoperative day.

Materials And Methods: This study was approved by the local ethics committee, and informed consent was obtained from all subjects. One hundred three patients with MS and 42 control subjects underwent extracranial and transcranial venous echo-color Doppler ultrasonography (US) and contrast-enhanced US.
We report the case of a young woman admitted because of several and recurring episodes of macroscopic hematuria beginned after her first pregnancy. Contrast-enhanced multidetector computed tomography images showed dilated ovarian veins due to a typical pelvic varicocele. We supposed to be a right ovarian vein syndrome, a rare clinical situation characterized by an anomalous compression of the lumbar ureter by the ectasic ovarian vein; this condition may cause a chronic inflammatory stimulus above the urothelial mucosa with a following hematuria.

All patients were referred because of discomfort and pain when sexual intercourse was attempted. Direct sclerotherapy with 3% STS was performed on a day-hospital basis with the patient under local anesthesia.

Whenever possible, percutaneous cholecystostomy should be followed by laparoscopic cholecystectomy. In elderly patients who are inappropriate surgical candidates because of severe concomitant systemic diseases, less invasive treatments may prevent recurrence.

Clarifying this aspect could help tackle the life-treating events occurring in patients suffering from liver cirrhosis. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationships between the spleno-renal shunts presence at doppler ultrasound and the liver cirrhosis complications.

The design was a series of 3 cases of viable cervical pregnancy diagnosed by transvaginal ultrasonography and treated by means of BUAE and subsequent uterine curettage. Three women with viable cervical pregnancy underwent BUAE and subsequent uterine curettage in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, High Risk Pregnancy Center, University "Federico II" of Naples.

A phase II study focused on resectability of pelvic colorectal relapses is in progress. From November 1995, 84 pts, 52 male and 32 female (94 treatments), with advanced not resectable abdominal (14 pts) or pelvic (70 pts) relapses, and resistant to previous systemic chemotherapy, were enrolled in the study.

Prevention is regarded as the most appropriate and effective therapeutic option. Medical antithrombotic therapy is the most common approach, but when antithrombotic therapy with heparin cannot be performed, vena cava filters are necessary devices in many patients and situations.

Subjects And Methods: Nineteen patients (14 women and five men; mean age, 47 years; age range, 24-75 years) with suspected bile duct injury as a result of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (17 patients) and open cholecystectomy (two patients) underwent MR cholangiography. MR images were evaluated for bile duct discontinuity, presence or absence of biliary dilation, stricture, excision injury, free fluid, and collections.
Purpose: To compare the safety and efficacy of CT-guided fine needle biopsy (FNAB) of small (<15 mm) lung lesions in inpatients and outpatients.
Materials And Methods: 108 consecutive inpatients (69 M, 39 F, mean age 56) and 121 consecutive outpatients (90 M, 31 F, mean age 50) who underwent CT-guided FNAB of small lung lesions were included. Lesion size, depth, number of needle passes, presence of emphysema were recorded.
