Bullying and undermining behaviours in surgery: A qualitative study of surgical trainee experiences in the United Kingdom (UK) & Republic of Ireland (ROI).

Background: Bullying and undermining (B/U) behaviours are documented in the international surgical workplace. This study is the largest assessment of prevalence of B/U behaviours within UK & ROI surgical training to date.

Materials And Methods: UK & ROI surgical trainees were electronically surveyed in July 2017.

Cervical endoscopic spinal surgery: A review of the current literature.

Cervical endoscopic spinal surgery (CESS) is now regularly performed in some centres in the Far East, yet rarely in Europe and the United States. This review describes the application of CESS through anterior and posterior approaches with analysis of the available evidence supporting current techniques. An electronic literature search identified 52 papers and proceedings' abstracts of which 25 (16 anterior approach and 9 posterior approach) provided comparable clinical outcomes.

Background: Stereotypes in medicine have become exaggerated for the purpose of workplace amusement. Our objective was to assess the levels of "dark triad" personality traits expressed by individuals working in different health care specialties in comparison with the general population.

Methods: We conducted a prospective, cross-sectional study within multiple departments of a UK secondary care teaching hospital.

Sport has developed into a multi-billion pound industry leading to the development of a 'win at any cost' mentality in some individuals. The abuse of performance-enhancing drugs has developed into a sophisticated arms race between those unfairly enhancing performance and those wishing to preserve the dignity of sport and the health of the competitors.

The boiled-egg technique: a new method for obtaining femoral head autograft used in acetabular defect reconstruction.

Primary total hip arthroplasty can be complicated by acetabular bony defects, threatening the biomechanical integrity of the prosthesis. Traditionally, when autologous bone is used to pack these defects, it is obtained from thin slices of femoral head in addition to acetabular reamings. We report a novel technique for the acquisition of autologous femoral head bone graft used in the reconstruction of acetabular defects during primary total hip arthroplasty.

Peer assessment of resuscitation skills.

Introduction: Peer tuition has been identified as a useful tool for delivering undergraduate healthcare training in basic life support. The aim of this study was to test the expansion of the peer tuition model to include peer assessment of performance. The study also sought to establish the attitudes towards peer assessment among the course students and tutors.
