Introduction And Objectives: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) frequently coexists with other comorbidities, including hypogonadism. However, the association between COPD severity and hypogonadism remains controversial. This study aimed to evaluate this association and compare the clinical characteristics of hypogonadal and eugonadal COPD patients.

Lift-Out Specimen Preparation and Multiscale Correlative Investigation of Li-Ion Battery Electrodes Using Focused Ion Beam-Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry Platforms.

Advanced characterization is paramount to understanding battery cycling and degradation in greater detail. Herein, we present a novel methodology of battery electrode analysis, employing focused ion beam (FIB) secondary-ion mass spectrometry platforms coupled with a specific lift-out specimen preparation, allowing us to optimize analysis and prevent air contamination. Correlative microscopy, combining electron microscopy and chemical imaging of a liquid electrolyte Li-ion battery electrode, is performed over the entire electrode thickness down to subparticle domains.

Evidencing Phase Transformations of LiPSCl Argyrodite under Ambient Air and Dry Room Exposure.

All-solid-state electrolytes have been extensively studied for the last years in order to achieve high conductivities and improved safety among lithium-ion technologies. Sulfide electrolytes, such as argyrodites (LiPSX, X = Cl, Br, and I), succeed to show high performances despite their poor chemical stability. As a matter of fact, argyrodite reactivity to water is known as a common drawback for easy implementation and requires the use of dry room for cell preparation.

The VAX-TRUST project addresses vaccine hesitancy in seven European countries with a systematic and evidence-based approach. Interventions, targeting healthcare professionals, draw from behavioural and social theories. A checklist, inspired by the TIDieR (Template for Intervention Description and Replication), ensures a detailed description of actions, transparency and replicability.

Trust matters: The Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy in Europe Study.

This article presents the design of a seven-country study focusing on childhood vaccines, Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy in Europe (VAX-TRUST), developed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study consists of (a) situation analysis of vaccine hesitancy (examination of individual, socio-demographic and macro-level factors of vaccine hesitancy and analysis of media coverage on vaccines and vaccination and (b) participant observation and in-depth interviews of healthcare professionals and vaccine-hesitant parents. These analyses were used to design interventions aimed at increasing awareness on the complexity of vaccine hesitancy among healthcare professionals involved in discussing childhood vaccines with parents.

A novel presentation of diaphragmatic flutter in a patient with obstructive sleep apnea and recurrent cerebellar hemangioblastoma.

Unlabelled: We report a unique case of diaphragmatic flutter in a patient with obstructive sleep apnea who had no respiratory symptoms related to flutter and a history of recurrent cerebellar hemangioblastoma. The flutter was detected during a routine follow-up monitoring through the built-in software of the positive airway pressure device; the flow and pressure curves showed abnormal and curious oscillations. The ultrasound confirmed the diagnosis and ruled out other causes of abnormal diaphragmatic movements.

Demonstrating Agreement between Radio and Fluorescence Measurements of the Depth of Maximum of Extensive Air Showers at the Pierre Auger Observatory.

We show, for the first time, radio measurements of the depth of shower maximum (X_{max}) of air showers induced by cosmic rays that are compared to measurements of the established fluorescence method at the same location. Using measurements at the Pierre Auger Observatory we show full compatibility between our radio and the previously published fluorescence dataset, and between a subset of air showers observed simultaneously with both radio and fluorescence techniques, a measurement setup unique to the Pierre Auger Observatory. Furthermore, we show radio X_{max} resolution as a function of energy and demonstrate the ability to make competitive high-resolution X_{max} measurements with even a sparse radio array.

Lithium isotope tracing in silicon-based electrodes using solid-state MAS NMR: a powerful comprehensive tool for the characterization of lithium batteries.

The introduction of lithiated components with different Li/Li isotopic ratios, also called isotopic tracing, can give access to better understanding of lithium transport and lithiation processes in lithium-ion batteries. In this work, we propose a simple methodology based on high-resolution solid-state NMR for the determination of the Li/Li ratio in silicon electrodes following different strategies of isotopic tracing. The Li and Li MAS NMR experiments allow obtaining resolved spectra whose spectral components can be assigned to different moieties of the materials.

Exploring Knowledge and Awareness of HCV Infection and Screening Test: A Cross-Sectional Survey Among an Italian Sample.

Addressing HCV represents a public health priority, especially in Italy, which has the highest HCV prevalence in Europe. This study primarily aimed to explore knowledge about the HCV infection and awareness of the existence of the HCV screening test in Italy, before the implementation of awareness campaigns in 2022. An online cross-sectional survey was conducted (December 2021-January 2022).

Limits to Gauge Coupling in the Dark Sector Set by the Nonobservation of Instanton-Induced Decay of Super-Heavy Dark Matter in the Pierre Auger Observatory Data.

Instantons, which are nonperturbative solutions to Yang-Mills equations, provide a signal for the occurrence of quantum tunneling between distinct classes of vacua. They can give rise to decays of particles otherwise forbidden. Using data collected at the Pierre Auger Observatory, we search for signatures of such instanton-induced processes that would be suggestive of super-heavy particles decaying in the Galactic halo.

Analyzing respiratory muscle weakness and thoracopulmonary restriction in subjects with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Objective: To analyze the underlying components of reduced maximal static inspiratory (MIP) and expiratory (MEP) pressures in subjects with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Methods: Forty-three subjects were assessed based on routine pulmonary function tests. MIP and MEP were measured the subjects performed maximal expirations and inspirations using a snorkel mouthpiece.

Electrochemical and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopic Study of Early SEI Formation and Evolution on Si and Si@C Nanoparticle-Based Electrodes.

Carbon coatings can help to stabilize the electrochemical performance of high-energy anodes using silicon nanoparticles as the active material. In this work, the comparison of the behavior and chemical composition of the Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) was carried out between Si nanoparticles and carbon-coated Si nanoparticles (Si@C). A combination of two complementary analytical techniques, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), was used to determine the intrinsic characteristics of the SEI.

Changes in Physical Activity Levels and Eating Behaviours during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Sociodemographic Analysis in University Students.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced schools and universities to shift their activities online, influencing the adoption of health-related behaviours such as physical activity and healthy dietary habits. The present study investigates the changes in adherence to a healthy diet and regular physical activity in university students in Italy before and during the COVID-19 pandemic and understands the role of sociodemographic variables in creating the changes above. We conducted a repeated cross-sectional survey performing the same sampling strategy at the first data collection (T0) and second data collection (T1) with a combination of convenience and snowball sampling approaches.

[When should and when should not use oxygen in neuromuscular diseases?].

Although the references warn about the adverse effects of adding O2 without ventilatory assistance in patients with neuromuscular diseases (NMD), patients are still to be admitted to intensive care units with severe hypercapnia and CO2 narcosis. It seems that the problem is rediscovered as the years and generations go by. Unfortunately, many patients and their network of formal and informal caregivers are unaware of this risk, leading to significant worsening of symptoms, acute events, hospital admissions, and, in some cases, cause death.

Compartmental nutritional status and respiratory muscle function assessment in subjects with neuromuscular diseases.

There are few data devoted to the combined assessment of the nutritional and respiratory status of subjects with neuromuscular diseases. The objective was to establish correlations between compartmental nutritional variables and respiratory variables to identify respiratory muscle weakness determinants of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Cross-sectional study with ALS and DMD patients included in an Institutional Registry of Neuromuscular diseases.
