Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness and safety of oral anticoagulants (OACs), particularly rivaroxaban, as a treatment for superficial venous thrombosis (SVT), providing a more convenient alternative to traditional parenteral injections.
  • A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines, analyzing six studies that involved adult patients treated with OACs and reporting outcomes related to efficacy and safety.
  • Results show that OACs, especially rivaroxaban, demonstrated low rates of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), SVT extension, recurrence, and bleeding, suggesting they are a viable treatment option for SVT, although more extensive research is needed to solidify these conclusions.*

Background: Resveratrol is a non-flavonoid polyphenol that shows promise in reducing pro-inflammatory factors and maintaining endothelial function, which hints at its potential role in slowing atherosclerosis and preventing acute coronary events.

Objective: To study the cardioprotective effects of resveratrol on inflammatory mediators and endothelial function in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).

Methods: A thorough search was conducted in databases (Cochrane Library, ProQuest, PubMed, LILACS, ScienceDirect, Springer, Taylor&Francis, CNKI, Wanfang, and Weipu) until September 24, 2023.

Smoking is related to vascular aging. However, the hazardous effect of e-cigarette is often debatable, with limited studies available. In contrast, moderate-intensity aerobic exercise is well known to decrease aortic stiffness.

Moderate intensity exercise is considered as a primary step to prevent coronary artery diseases (CADs) by stimulated FSTL-1 secretion as a novel myokines to improve endothelial cell function, prevent arterial stiffness, or vascular inflammation. This review aims to provide the current evident role of FSTL-1 as a novel myokine secreted during exercise to prevent atherosclerosis progression. A systematic review using databases from (PubMed), ScienceDirect, and The Cochrane Library, was conducted up to October 2021 to identify all the eligible experimental and observational studies that assess how moderate intensity exercises stimulate FSTL-1 secretion to prevent atherosclerosis.

Coronary artery diseases (CAD), also known as coronary heart disease (CHD), are the world's leading cause of death. The basis of coronary artery disease is the narrowing of the heart coronary artery lumen due to atherosclerosis. The use of electronic cigarettes has increased significantly over the years.

Background: Peripheral vascular disease is the rarest vascular complication in systemic lupus erythematosus. Some theories propose that immune complexes may promote inflammation in the vessel, and disrupt it in a manner that may cause ischemia.

Case Presentation: A 14-year-old Asian girl presented with intermittent claudication as the chief complaint followed by discoloration of her left big toe for 2 weeks prior to admission.

Background: Coronary artery ectasia is characterized by an abnormal dilatation of the coronary arteries. Coronary artery ectasia is observed in 3-8% of patients undergoing coronary angiography and sometimes leads to acute coronary syndrome regardless of the presence or absence of coronary stenosis or atrial fibrillation.

Case Presentation: A 61-year-old Indonesian man presented with typical angina that began 1 week before admission and had worsened 3 hours prior to admission.

Background: Although de Winter T-wave electrocardiography pattern is rare, it signifies proximal left anterior descending artery occlusion and is often unrecognized by physicians. The aim of this case report was to highlight the dilemma in the management of a patient with de Winter T-wave pattern in the hospital without interventional cardiology facility.

Case Presentation: A 65-year-old male presented with typical chest pain since 2 hours before admission, and ECG showed sinus rhythm of 57 bpm and >1 mm upsloping ST depression with symmetric tall T in lead V characteristic of de Winter T-wave ECG pattern.

Background: Burkholderia is a pathogen that is rarely seen in clinical cases. However, this organism is being found more commonly in hospitals.

Case Presentation: A female Indonesian newborn was referred to our neonatal intensive care unit because of respiratory distress.

Aims: Ideal positioning of left ventricular (LV) pacing lead in cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is technically demanding. This case aims to place LV lead in anterolateral branch of coronary sinus (CS) using collateral route blindly.

Methods And Results: Externalization via the CS ostium using collaterals retrogrogradely, which was not visible in initial balloon occlusion venography, through one delivery sheath with the support of commonly used micro-guide catheter and subsequent successful LV lead placement in anterolateral branch of CS.
