The drug screen test on a 12-year-old male patient was positive for opiates by a kinetic interaction of microparticles in solution (KIMS) immunoassay method on the Roche Cobas C502. The positive opiates result was not confirmed by the liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method. A chart review revealed that the patient had tuberculosis and was on rifampin.

Background: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is a gold-standard procedure for treatment of obesity and associated comorbidities. No consensus on the optimal design of this operation has been achieved, with various lengths of bypassed small bowel limb lengths being used by bariatric surgeons. This aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine whether biliopancreatic limb (BPL) length in RYGB affects postoperative outcomes including superior reduction in weight, body mass index (BMI), and resolution of metabolic comorbidities associated with obesity.

The ethos of the junior trainees' group is to facilitate peer support, an important complement to pursuing our speciality of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Launched in September 2020, the Buddy Scheme enables peer-matching. Results demonstrate this scheme has successfully provided additional support for second-degree applicants.

Challenges in patient and public understanding of the cleft multidisciplinary team (MDT) clinic were highlighted in the Cleft Care UK report in 2012. An innovative personalized visual guide was designed to improve understanding of cleft MDT clinic and encourage child engagement at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. We demonstrate the use of Public and Patient Involvement to produce this novel visual educational tool in the Cleft MDT setting, which can form part of a personal health record.

Dermal regeneration templates may be used in the reconstruction of large defects after the excision of cutaneous malignancies. We describe the successful use of Integra (Integra Lifesciences Corporation, Plainsboro, NJ, USA) as a single-stage regeneration template after the excision of multiple lesions of the scalp with a surface area of 96.7cm.

Aim: A pilot questionnaire survey was carried out to determine levels of patient satisfaction with oral urgent treatment (OUT) provided by rural clinical officers who had been trained by the charity Bridge2Aid in North West Tanzania.

Method: The survey was carried out over a five-day period, among adult patients who had received oral urgent treatment from a trained clinical officer. A satisfaction questionnaire was administered by a team of English-speaking dental students and Swahili-speaking college students under supervision.
