We present a resonant-mode, transverse-field, radio-frequency (rf) neutron spin flipper design that uses high-temperature superconducting films to ensure sharp transitions between uniform magnetic field regions. Resonant mode allows for low-power, high-frequency operation but requires strict homogeneity of the magnetic fields inside the device. This design was found to efficiently flip neutrons at 96.

Patients with inherited disorders of the long-chain fatty acid oxidation (lcFAO) machinery present with a heterogeneous profile of disease manifestations and aggravation of symptoms is often triggered by inflammatory activation. Monocytes and macrophages are innate immune cells that play a major role in the onset and resolution of inflammation. These cells undergo metabolic rewiring upon activation including the regulation of the FAO rate.

It shows that the most important factor determining HRQOL in this patient group is seizure frequency. In particular, seizure-freedom is associated with better HRQOL scores.

Methods: We analyzed five studies on fetal ultrasound measurements using three French data sources. Two studies used second and third trimester ultrasound data from a nationwide birth cohort in 2011 (the ELFE study, N = 13 197 and N = 7747); one study used third trimester ultrasound data from on a nationwide cross-sectional study (the 2016 French National Perinatal Survey, N = 9940); and the last two studies were from the "Flash study" 2014 which prospectively collected ultrasound data from routine visits in the second and third trimesters (N = 4858 and N = 3522).
Using an 185-kg NaI[Tl] array, COHERENT has measured the inclusive electron-neutrino charged-current cross section on ^{127}I with pion decay-at-rest neutrinos produced by the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Iodine is one the heaviest targets for which low-energy (≤50 MeV) inelastic neutrino-nucleus processes have been measured, and this is the first measurement of its inclusive cross section. After a five-year detector exposure, COHERENT reports a flux-averaged cross section for electron neutrinos of 9.

With the introduction of next-generation sequencing (NGS) methods for newborn screening (NBS), more inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs) can technically be included, and a revision of the criteria was attempted. This study aimed to formulate statements and investigate whether those statements could elaborate on the criterion of for IMDs to decide on eligibility for NBS.

Data on the background to these increases are scarce, but likely to include poor birthing facilities in general hospitals, convenience for the doctor, private medicine, fear of litigation, socioeconomic status, shortage of midwives and nurses, and disappearance of vaginal instrumental deliveries. Options to reverse cesarean delivery trends are discussed.

However, this approach has not been well assessed at more granular scales, including large work sites such as University campuses. Between August 2021 and April 2022, we explored the occurrence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in wastewater using qPCR assays from multiple complimentary sewer catchments and residential buildings spanning the University of Calgary's campus and how this compared to levels from the municipal wastewater treatment plant servicing the campus.

This study aims to answer this question for primary carnitine deficiency (PCD) taking into account that NBS for PCD identifies newborns with PCD and also until then undiagnosed mothers.
Methods: We investigated clinical, genetic (variants in gene) and functional (carnitine transport activity in fibroblasts) characteristics of all referred individuals through NBS (newborns and mothers) and clinically diagnosed patients with PCD (not through NBS).

Objective: Absences affect visual attention and eye movements variably. Here, we explore whether the dissimilarity of these symptoms during absences is reflected in differences in electroencephalographic (EEG) features, functional connectivity, and activation of the frontal eye field.
Methods: Pediatric patients with absences performed a computerized choice reaction time task, with simultaneous recording of EEG and eye-tracking.
Background: Primary carnitine deficiency is an inborn error of metabolism, which can lead to life-threating complications early in life. Low carnitine levels can be detected by newborn bloodspot screening (NBS). However, NBS can also identify, mostly asymptomatic, mothers with primary carnitine deficiency.

There have been important advances, yet automated detection in EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) settings has not been accepted as standard practice. We intend to implement this software at our EMU and so carried out a qualitative study to identify factors that hinder ('barriers') and facilitate ('enablers') implementation.

We systematically reviewed the quality of reporting and findings in TMS-EEG studies on people with epilepsy and healthy controls, and on healthy individuals taking anti-seizure medication. We searched the Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed and Web of Science databases for original TMS-EEG studies comparing people with epilepsy and healthy controls, and healthy subjects before and after taking anti-seizure medication.

No evidence for dark matter is found and we thus place limits on allowed parameter space. With this low-threshold detector, we are sensitive to coherent elastic scattering between dark matter and nuclei.

Cortical excitability can be directly assessed by combining transcranial magnetic stimulation with electroencephalography (TMS-EEG). We measured TMS evoked potential (TEP) amplitude and response consistency as these measures have been linked to cortical excitability but were not yet reported in migraine.

This leads to ~85% false positive referrals who all need an invasive, expensive and lengthy evaluation. We investigated whether a ratio of urine C0 / plasma C0 (Ratio) can improve the follow-up protocol for primary carnitine deficiency (PCD).

Objective: To evaluate the role of antenatal administration of corticosteroids for fetal lung maturation on the short-term perinatal outcome of pregnancy complicated by late fetal growth restriction (FGR).
Methods: This cohort study was a secondary analysis of a multicenter prospective observational study, the TRUFFLE-2 feasibility study, conducted between 2017 and 2018 in 33 European perinatal centers. The study included women with a singleton pregnancy from 32 + 0 to 36 + 6 weeks of gestation with a fetus considered at risk for FGR, defined as estimated fetal weight (EFW) and/or fetal abdominal circumference < 10 percentile, or umbilicocerebral ratio (UCR) ≥ 95 percentile or a drop of more than 40 percentile points in abdominal circumference measurement from the 20-week scan.
We measured the cross section of coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS) using a CsI[Na] scintillating crystal in a high flux of neutrinos produced at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. New data collected before detector decommissioning have more than doubled the dataset since the first observation of CEvNS, achieved with this detector. Systematic uncertainties have also been reduced with an updated quenching model, allowing for improved precision.

Overruling Rutherford's extrapolation from gold to hydrogen, an atom model is described that provides improved answers to these phenomena while the hybridization principle and the covalent bond are re-defined by giving neutrons a much more prominent role than they have in the reigning quantum mechanical model. It is postulated that a neutron is not just there to assist the strong force in surpassing the repulsive coulombic forces between the protons in the nucleus, but the neutron is the modus operandi of molecular geometry, and as such plays a part in chemical reactivity, bond length and bond strength.

The consequences of inappropriate early or late delivery are potentially important yet practice varies widely around the world, with abnormal findings from fetal heart rate monitoring invariably leading to delivery. Indices derived from fetal cerebral Doppler examination may guide such decisions although there are few studies in this area.
