VEXAS (vacuoles, E1 enzyme, X-linked, autoinflammatory, somatic) syndrome is a recently recognized systemic autoinflammatory disease caused by somatic mutations in hematopoietic progenitor cells. This case series of four patients with VEXAS syndrome and comorbid myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) aims to describe clinical, imaging, and hematologic disease presentations as well as response to therapy. Four patients with VEXAS syndrome and MDS are described.

The objectives of this study were to investigate the mean collagen content of the atlanto-axial joint (AAJ) ligaments in a cohort without inflammatory disease and to analyze clinical confounders such as age, sex, and presence of ligamentous calcifications. A total of 153 patients who underwent dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) due to various reasons (e.g.

The relationship between degenerative changes of the sacroiliac joints and the lumbar spine on CT has not been studied yet. The aim of this analysis is to determine the nature of their association as well as the influence of fixed anatomical spinopelvic parameters on sacroiliac joint degeneration. For this institutional review-board-approved investigation, imaging datasets as well as electronic medical records of 719 patients without back pain from the clinical routine of our department of radiology were included.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to create a data-driven definition for identifying structural changes in sacroiliac joints relevant to axial spondyloarthritis through CT imaging of a large population.
  • The research involved 546 individuals, assessing CT scans for specific joint lesions and comparing their occurrence across different groups, while establishing diagnostic metrics against clinical diagnoses.
  • Findings indicate that ankylosis and erosions in specific joint areas (middle and dorsal) are strong indicators for positive axSpA, whereas lesions like sclerosis and ventral erosions have lower specificity and diagnostic performance.

Objectives: The aim of this investigation was to determine the prevalence of variant SI joint forms in symptomatic patients with mechanical joint disease (MJD) and axial SpA (axSpA) compared with control patients.

Method: A total of 973 patients were included in this cross-sectional study (95 axSpA; 61 MJD; 817 controls); clinical diagnosis, age and gender were noted. An established scoring system was used to classify joint forms on CT scans of the pelvis.

Degeneration of the sacroiliac joints (SIJs) is a common finding, while its underlying cause and development remain incompletely understood. The aim of this investigation was to describe the spatial distribution of degenerative SIJ changes across age groups and to investigate for the first time their relationship to anatomical form and sex. For this IRB-approved investigation, demographic data of 818 patients without SIJ disease were retrieved from electronic patient records.

Secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT) as a result of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common health problem and has been reported to manifest at the sacroiliac joints (SIJ). The aim of this investigation was to systematically assess sacroiliac joint changes in asymptomatic sHPT as detected by high-resolution CT. Included in this IRB-approved retrospective case-control study were 56 patients with asymptomatic sHPT as well as 259 matched controls without SIJ disease.
