Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluated the effects of heat-moisture treatment (HMT) on starch extracted from black and red rice, focusing on factors like extraction yield, starch and amylose content, and physicochemical properties.
  • HMT was found to decrease extraction yield and starch content while enhancing water, oil, and milk absorption; also improving stability by reducing syneresis.
  • Microstructural analysis revealed changes in the starch’s appearance and texture, indicating that HMT significantly alters starch characteristics, potentially expanding its applications and improving storage stability at higher temperatures.

Rationale: Multiple Calcifying Hyperplastic Dental Follicle (MCHDF) is an extremely rare condition and is characterised by multiple impacted permanent teeth, with enlarged dental follicles, containing calcifications. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is the ideal exam for the identification of this condition.

Patient Concerns: The present study seeks to compare the behaviour of MCHDF in imaging exams of three clinical cases with their MCHDF imaging diagnoses, in which a change about tooth eruption was observed.

is a zoonotic nematode traditionally detected worldwide in both domestic and wild animals. In South America, along with the occurrence of this parasite in domestic pigs and wild boars, there are reports of infection in wild carnivores. Brazil is considered free of the domestic cycle of , but there is unpublished serological evidence of infection in wild boars, which changed the Brazilian status in OIE regarding the disease after an official communication.

This is the first study conducted in Paraná, Brazil, to investigate Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (Mhyo) infection in free-living wild boars. Eighty-eight wild boars were managed by authorized controllers between 2017 and 2019 in the state of Paraná in southern Brazil. Management georeferencing, sex, and weight were recorded for each animal.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is a viral disease characterized by reproductive impairment or failure in breeding animals, and a respiratory disease in pigs of any age. Brazil is the fourth largest pork producer and exporter globally, and PRRS virus (PRRSV) infection has never been reported in the country. This study aimed to investigate the status of porcine biological samples from commercial swine herds, quarantined imported boars, wild boars and feral pigs to update PRRS information in Brazil.

Objective: To evaluate the intra- and interexaminer reproducibility of measurements of the resistance and static and dynamic compliance of the respiratory system in patients on mechanical ventilation.

Methods: This was an analytical study conducted with individuals aged ≥ 18 years who were on invasive mechanical ventilation and had no clinical diagnosis of respiratory system disease and/or chest abnormality. Three measurements of respiratory mechanics were performed with a 1-minute interval between them.

In this work, we present a computational investigation on the structure and energetics of eleocarpanthraquinone, a newly isolated polyphenolic anthrone-antraquinone. Properties such as bond lengths, angles, atomic charges, bond dissociation enthalpies (BDEs), and ionization potential (IP) were determined through the use of density functional theory (DFT). The B3LYP and M06-2X exchange-correlation functionals were employed along with the 6-31+G(d,p), 6-31+ +G(d,p), and 6-311+G(d,p) basis sets for performing computations in the gas-phase, water, methanol, and ethanol.

Wild boars represent a potential dissemination source of important pathogens to public and animal health, since they can host several pathogens. This study aimed to evaluate the health profile of wild boars hunted for population control in the state of Santa Catarina (SC), south of Brazil. For this study, tissue and blood samples were collected from 61 wild boars hunted from October 2017 to November 2018.

Infusions of roots of (Cogn.) Baill, ("taiuiá", "cipó-tauá") are used for toothache pain and ulcers. We aimed to study the antinociceptive effects and identify the possible mechanism of action of this plant and its isolated substances (cayaponoside A1, cayaponoside B4, cayaponoside D, and siolmatroside I).

Chemical investigation of the stems of resulted in the isolation of eglerisine (1: ), a compound with a rare sesquiterpenoid tropolone skeleton. Its structure was determined by analysis of spectrometric and spectroscopic data, including HRESIMS, 1D, and 2D NMR. The antiproliferative effects of eglerisine were tested in human leukemia lineages.

The vast capacity for maintenance and dissemination in the environment are major challenges for the control of Salmonella spp. in poultry farms. The aim of this study was to assess environmental contamination by non-typhoidal Salmonella in successive broiler flocks in nine commercial broiler farms integrated with three companies in the south of Brazil, for a twelve-month production period.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a multifaceted condition characterized by chronic anovulation and excess ovarian activity, in contrast to other causes of anovulation that involve ovarian dormancy or primary insufficiency. Recent studies indicated that PCOS is associated with low-grade chronic inflammation and that women with PCOS are at increased risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The inflammatory and metabolic derangements associated with PCOS are explained in part by the coexistence of insulin resistance and obesity but are further fueled by the androgen excess.

Background: Oncological pain is one of the most prevalent and difficult-to-treat symptoms in patients with cancer. p-Cymene (PC) is a monoterpene found in more than 100 different plant species, endowed with various pharmacological properties-particularly antinociceptive.

Hypothesis/purpose: PC has antinociceptive effect in a model of oncologic pain due to the activation of the descending inhibitory pathway of pain.

Twenty compounds were isolated from the hydroethanolic extract of the stems of Siolmatra brasiliensis, five flavonoids, two lignans, one glucosyl phytosterol, seven nor-cucurbitacins, one new phenolic derivative named siolmatrin (1) and four new dammarane-type saponins named siolmatrosides II-V (2-5), the structures of the compounds were assigned by means of 1D and 2D NMR experiments and HRESIMS of the natural compounds and some acetyl derivatives. The effects of the crude hydroethanolic extract (SbExt) and the ethyl acetate fraction (SbEtAc) of Siolmatra brasiliensis stems on the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) were also investigated. In the in vitro model system of protein glycation using bovine serum albumin (BSA) and glucose, addition of SbExt or SbEtAc inhibited the formation of fluorescent AGEs, in parallel to minor levels of fructosamine (SbEtAc) and markers of tyrosine and tryptophan oxidation (SbExt and SbEtAc).

Bignoniaceae, is a tropical tree-creeper used as a traditional remedy for a number of diseases, highlighting inflammation. Our objective was to corroborate the popular anti-inflammatory use of the hydroethanolic extract from the leaves (HEFc) and of its isolated 4',6,7-trihydroxy-5-methoxyflavone (5--methylscutellarein) [], described here for the first time. Quantitative analysis indicated 8.

The microbiological risk of recycled litter depends on the efficacy of the management system applied to inactivate residual microorganisms and preserve the health of the successive broiler flock. This study aimed to assess the viability and infectivity of the Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV), Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV) and Salmonella Heidelberg in recycled litter exposed to different treatments. The litter was contaminated with microorganisms and submitted to the treatments (T): T1: shallow fermentation; T2: quicklime (calcium oxide); T3: shallow fermentation followed by addition of quicklime; T4: no treatment.
