Introduction: Studies focused on dermoscopic aspects of pigmented Bowen disease (pBD) in Latin American population are scarce and limited to only case reports or small series.

Objectives: To report dermoscopic findings in a large series of 147 pBD diagnosed in Ibero-Latin American population.

Methods: We conducted a multicentric, retrospective study on 147 histologically proven pBD under the auspices of the Dermoscopy Chapter of the Ibero-Latin American College of Dermatology.

Developmental language disorder (DLD) is considered a neurodevelopmental disorder that compromises language comprehension and/or expression and constitutes a risk factor for learning to read. The aim of the present study was to analyse the reading strategies used by students with DLD to read sentences. There is evidence in the literature that, when linguistic resources are insufficient, the keyword strategy (identifying some of the words in the sentence with their own semantic content, with barely no processing of the function words) is used to read sentences.

Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze the efficacy of the dual trigger (human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) + GnRH agonists) compared to the conventional trigger (hCG) in terms of oocyte retrieval (number and oocyte maturity), fertilization rate or number of embryos with two pronuclei, number of high-quality embryos, number of transferred embryos, number of cryopreserved embryos, implantation rate, positive β-hCG rate, ongoing pregnancy rate, abortion rate, and live birth rate.

Methods: This search performed in this systematic review included all literature published in the PubMed database of studies on controlled ovarian stimulation with dual trigger compared with conventional trigger. The meta-analysis included clinical trials and prospective cohort studies.

The personnel assignment problem in different service industries aims to minimize the staff surplus/shortage costs. However, uncertainty in the staff demand challenges the accomplishment of that objective. This research studies the personnel assignment problem considering uncertain demand and multiskilled workforce configured through a 2-chaining strategy.

Introduction: Chagas disease (CD) affects ~7 million people worldwide. Benznidazole (BZN) and nifurtimox (NFX) are the only approved drugs for CD chemotherapy. Although both drugs are highly effective in acute and paediatric infections, their efficacy in adults with chronic CD (CCD) is lower and variable.

Considering an uncertain demand, this study evaluates the potential benefits of using a multiskilled workforce through a k-chaining policy with k≥2. For the service sector and, particularly for the retail industry, we initially propose a deterministic mixed-integer linear programming model that determines how many employees should be multiskilled, in which and how many departments they should be trained, and how their weekly working hours will be assigned. Then, the deterministic model is reformulated using a two-stage stochastic optimization (TSSO) model to explicitly incorporate the uncertain personnel demand.

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death. The combination of new molecular classifications with clinicopathological data could contribute to the individualization of patients and to the development of new therapeutic strategies. We examined the various associations in two molecular types of GC: HER2-positive (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2) and microsatellite instability (MSI), assessing their influence on treatment and prognosis.

Celtica gigantea(= Stipa gigantea) is a large perennial grass which grows in nutrient-poor sandy soils in semiarid zones of the western Iberian Peninsula. The purpose of this work was to find out if culturable fungal symbionts isolated from roots of this wild grass could have growth promoting activity in tritordeum, a hybrid cereal for human consumption. A survey of fungi from the root endosphere of C.

Paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) episodes cause important economic impacts due to closure of shellfish production areas in order to protect human health. These closures, if are frequent and persistent, can seriously affect shellfish producers and the seafood industry, among others. In this study, we have developed an alternative processing method for bivalves with PSP content above the legal limit, which allows reducing toxicity to acceptable levels.

Article Synopsis
  • Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is a harmful neurotoxin found in some fish and shellfish in European waters, raising concerns about consumer health.
  • A study collected samples of bivalves and gastropods from the Spanish coast and analyzed them for TTX using advanced testing methods, finding no TTX levels above the safety threshold of 10 µg/kg.
  • Although the study didn't find any TTX in the samples, further research with more frequent sampling is suggested to better assess the risks associated with TTX in these seafood products.

Smoking is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Prior reports showed a transient increase in blood pressure (BP) following a spontaneous burst of muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA). We hypothesized that this pressor response would be accentuated in smokers.

The authors examined the relationship between cochlear implants (CIs) and reading acquisition and attempted to determine the part played by phonological and orthographic resources in this task. Four groups of Spanish-speaking deaf children were examined: children with either early- or late-implanted CIs, and children without CIs who had either moderate or profound hearing loss. A hearing group was included to control for age and reading level.

Article Synopsis
  • - The POMB trial studied the effects of pre-operative breast MRI on treatment decisions and surgical outcomes in women with breast cancer, evaluating MRI findings against traditional imaging methods.
  • - The trial involved 210 participants, and results showed a significant positive predictive value (PPV) of 74% for MRI findings that altered treatment plans, with even higher PPVs for specific treatments like mastectomy.
  • - The study concluded that integrating breast MRI with conventional imaging offers valuable and accurate information for pre-operative assessments in breast cancer patients.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to assess effects of three different educational intervention arms on knowledge of and intention to receive Pap testing and HPV co-testing.

Methods: Three active educational intervention arms were developed: a fotonovela, a radionovela, and a digital story. A pilot randomized controlled trial of 160 Latinas was conducted to assess the effectiveness of the intervention arms in increasing knowledge of cervical cancer and HPV and intention to be screened for cervical cancer compared to an attention control group (flu vaccination).

Inflammatory breast cancer is an aggressive and infiltrative malignancy that is often misdiagnosed as an infection because of its symptoms and signs of inflammation, delaying proper diagnosis and treatment. We report a case of inflammatory breast cancer showing correlation between dermoscopic and histopathological diagnoses. We highlight the utility of dermoscopy for skin biopsy site selection.
