Objective: The objective of this study is to describe patients referred for urological examination by their primary health care centres according to ethnicity and the disorders in question. The area selected for this study is the Raval Sur neighborhood in the city of Barcelona which has a high immigrant population. This will enable us to understand the health needs of an emerging population which is gaining considerable importance in many Spanish cities, at least where the specialty of urology is concerned.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: To evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of serum tissue polypeptide antigen (TPA) as a tumor marker for monitoring tumor recurrence in a prospective Phase II study.
Methods: This study consisted of 421 subjects allocated to three groups: 241 patients treated for bladder cancer between 1991 and 1995, 126 subjects with a previous history of bladder tumor but with no recurrence at the time of study enrollment, and 54 healthy volunteers. Soluble TPA concentrations were measured by radioimmunoassay.
Objectives: To report a case of perivesical hematoma without previous trauma in a patient under anticoagulant treatment.
Methods: A 70-year-old female admitted with a transitory ischemic cerebrovascular accident was given sodium heparin. Four days later she presented with abdominal distention and hypogastric discomfort.
Objectives: To report one case of malignant melanoma metastasis into the urinary tract, diagnosed after excision of the primary lesion.
Methods: Case of a 75 year old male with history of malignant melanoma in the scapular region excised 7 years before who presents with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), hematuria and a hypogastric mass, 12 cm in diameter, located superficially and anterior to the bladder. He underwent partial cystectomy for excision of the mass, prostate adenomectomy and lithiasis extraction.
