Abnormal uterine bleeding in women receiving direct oral anticoagulants for the treatment of venous thromboembolism.

Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a common complication of anticoagulant therapy in premenopausal women affected with acute venous thromboembolism. AUB impacts quality of life, and can lead to premature cessation of anticoagulation. There is increasing data to suggest that the direct oral anticoagulants when used for the treatment of venous thromboembolism differ in their menstrual bleeding profile.

Danazol has been used in the treatment of endometriosis and heavy menstrual bleeding for more than 40 years. This medication has both central antigonadotropic actions and direct atrophic effects on endometriotic tissue. Although it demonstrates a high-efficacy profile, the associated side effects have resulted in limited usage.

Endometrial ablation in the management of abnormal uterine bleeding.

Objective: To provide current evidence-based guidelines on the techniques and technologies used in endometrial ablation (EA), a minimally invasive technique for the management of AUB of benign origin.

Objective: To compare medical costs of three surgical procedures for the treatment of primary stress urinary incontinence: the laparoscopic Burch colposuspension procedure, the laparoscopic two-team sling procedure, and the transobturator tape (TOT) procedure.

Methods: We performed a retrospective observational study of isolated minimally invasive surgical procedures (no concomitant surgery) in 18 women with primary stress incontinence. Six women underwent a laparoscopic Burch colposuspension procedure, six underwent a laparoscopic two-team sling, and six underwent a TOT procedure.

Evidence: Articles published in English from 2005 were retrieved through searches of PubMed and Medline, using the following terms: venous thromboembolism, VTE, contraception, oral contraceptives, hormonal contraception. Results were restricted to systematic reviews, randomized control trials/controlled clinical trials, and observational studies.

The Canadian Endoscopy Education Project aims to create a national standardized endoscopy curriculum. The objective of the current project was to identify the core competencies for a gynecologic endoscopy (GE) curriculum in residency training programs.
