Purpose: The present study aimed to evaluate and compare the effect of nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC)-based composite with dicalcium phosphate dihydrate and an autologous blood clot (ABC) on the formation of new bone tissue in vivo by histological and histomorphometric assessment.

Materials And Methods: A total of 72 rats with created femoral defects (2 mm) were used. The rats were divided into three groups: (1) with filling of the defect with an ABC, (2) NFC-1-with filling of both the cortical plate and intramedullary space in the defect area, and (3) NFC-2-with filling of only the intramedullary space in the defect area.

In the past, polyacrylamide hydrogel was a popular choice for breast augmentation filler, and many women underwent mammoplasty with this gel. However, due to frequent complications, the use of polyacrylamide hydrogel in mammoplasty has been banned. Despite this ban, patients experiencing complications still seek medical treatment.

Direct conversion of syngas into ethanol is an attractive process because of its short route and high-added value, but remains an enormous challenge due to the low selectivity caused by unclear active sites. Here, the Cu(111) supported N-modified graphene fragments CN/Cu(111) ( = 0-2) are demonstrated to be an efficient catalyst for fabricating ethanol from syngas and methanol. Our results suggest that the Cu-carbon interaction not only facilitates CO activation, but also significantly affects the adsorption stability of C intermediates and finally changes the fundamental reaction mechanism.

In order to systematically study the synergistic effect of gas hydrate inhibition with mixtures of methanol (MeOH) and magnesium chloride (MgCl), the impact of these compounds on the thermodynamic stability of methane hydrate in the systems of CH-MeOH-HO, CH-MgCl-HO, and CH-MeOH-MgCl-HO was experimentally investigated. The pressure and temperature conditions of the three-phase vapor-aqueous solution-gas hydrate equilibrium were determined for these systems. The resulting dataset has 164 equilibrium points within the range of 234-289 K and 3-13 MPa.

Adsorption of organic phase-change materials (PCMs) by the porous matrix of microfibrillar cellulose (MFC) is a simple and versatile way to prepare shape-stable phase-change composites, which are promising as sustainable thermoregulating additives to construction materials. However, due to MFC inherent morphology, the resulting composites have relatively low poured density that complicates their introduction in sufficient amounts, for instance, into mortar mixes. Unlike MFC, fungal mycelium has, by an order, less fibrils thickness and, thus, possesses significantly higher poured density.

The elaboration of a low-cost and effective approach to synthesize hybrid composite materials based on the conventional thermoplastics and natural biopolymers is a sustainable alternative to the production of "traditional" plastics. Cellulose is one of the most abundant biopolymers. Its fibrils possess outstanding mechanical characteristics and, hence, attract considerable interest of researchers during recent decades.

Organic phase-change materials (PCMs) hold promise in developing advanced thermoregulation and responsive energy systems owing to their high latent heat capacity and thermal reliability. However, organic PCMs are prone to leakages in the liquid state and, thus, are hardly applicable in their pristine form. Herein, we encapsulated organic PCM -Octadecane into polyurethane capsules via polymerization of commercially available polymethylene polyphenylene isocyanate and polyethylene glycol at the interface oil-in-water emulsion and studied how various -Octadecane feeding affected the shell formation, capsule structure, and latent heat storage properties.

Precise data on the non-variant equilibrium of the four phases (vapor-aqueous solution-ice-gas hydrate) in - coordinates are highly desired for developing accurate thermodynamic models and can be used as reference points (similar to the triple point of water). Using the two-component hydrate-forming system CO-HO, we have proposed and validated a new express procedure for determining the temperature and pressure of the lower quadruple point Q. The essence of the method is the direct measurement of these parameters after the successive formation of the gas hydrate and ice phases in the initial two-phase gas-water solution system under intense agitation of the fluids.

Electron transport layers (ETLs) with pronounced electron conducting capability are essential for high performance planar perovskite photovoltaics, with the great challenge being that the most widely used metal oxide ETLs unfortunately have intrinsically low carrier mobility. Herein is demonstrated that by simply addressing the carrier loss at particle boundaries of TiO ETLs, through embedding in ETL p-n heterointerfaces, the electron mobility of the ETLs can be boosted by three orders of magnitude. Such embedding is encouragingly favorable for both inhibiting the formation of rutile phase TiO in ETL, and initiating the growth of high-quality perovskite films with less defect states.

Three-phase equilibrium conditions of vapor-aqueous solution-gas hydrate coexistence for the systems of CH-HO-organic thermodynamic inhibitor (THI) were experimentally determined. Hydrate equilibrium measurements for systems with methanol (MeOH), monoethylene glycol (MEG), and diethylene glycol (DEG) were conducted. Five concentrations of each inhibitor (maximum content 50 mass%) were studied in the pressure range of 4.

Phase-change materials (PCMs) attract much attention with regard to their capability of mitigating fossil fuel-based heating in in-building applications, due to the responsive accumulation and release of thermal energy as a latent heat of reversible phase transitions. Organic PCMs possess high latent heat storage capacity and thermal reliability. However, bare PCMs suffer from leakages in the liquid form.

A new method of the synthesis of nanofibrillar cellulose/polystyrene composite based on ultrasonic treatment of styrene emulsion in cellulose-water solution was elaborated. A new approach does not require additional heating and proposes a significantly faster synthesis (15 min, 45 °C) of the target composite compared to the methods described previously. A comprehensive analysis did not reveal any significant differences between mechanical, physical and biodegradable properties of the composite obtained by ultrasonic method and that one obtained by conventional thermal method, which requires much higher temperature (above 75 °C) and reaction duration (from 3 h).

A nanoarchitectural approach to the design of functional nanomaterials based on natural aluminosilicate nanotubes and their catalysis, and practical applications are described in this paper. We focused on the buildup of hybrid core-shell systems with metallic or organic molecules encased in aluminosilicate walls, and nanotube templates for structured silica and zeolite preparation. The basis for such an architectural design is a unique AlO/SiO dual chemistry of 50 nm diameter halloysite tubes.

The semiconductor-liquid junction (SCLJ), the dominant place in photoelectrochemical (PEC) catalysis, determines the interfacial activity and stability of photoelectrodes, whcih directly affects the viability of PEC hydrogen generation. Though efforts dedicated in past decades, a challenge remains regarding creating a synchronously active and stable SCLJ, owing to the technical hurdles of simultaneously overlaying the two advantages. The present work demonstrates that creating an SCLJ with a unique configuration of the dual interfacial layers can yield BiVO photoanodes with synchronously boosted photoelectrochemical activity and operational stability, with values located at the top in the records of such photoelectrodes.
