Objective: To determine whether maternal hypovitaminosis D (25(OH)D [<20 ng/ml] during late pregnancy is associated with increased risk of ALRI/ADD in their offspring during infancy.
This study introduces a silver-catalyzed method for the efficient and regioselective synthesis of pyrano heterocycles, utilizing readily available alcohols and water as nucleophiles. The method demonstrates high efficiency, delivering excellent yields and selectivity, and is scalable to gram quantities while maintaining broad functional group tolerance. Notably, the synthesized pyrano[3,4-]quinolines were successfully transformed into diverse samoquasine A derivatives, underscoring the method's applicability in natural product synthesis.

Introduction: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is present in the majority of patients with alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD), which leads to about 50% of cirrhosis-related hospitalizations and over 25% of deaths worldwide. Patients with ALD often present at an advanced stage, like cirrhosis with its complications and alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH), which has high short-term mortality. Current treatments are limited, with the limited benefit of glucocorticoids only in the short-term among patients with AH, highlighting an urgent need for novel therapies.

Here we uniquely explore and observe the spatio-temporal breather dynamics of optical soliton crystals in frequency microcombs, examining spatial breathers, chaos transitions, and dynamical deterministic switching - in nonlinear measurements and theory. To understand the breather solitons, we describe their dynamical routes and two example transitional maps of the ensemble spatial breathers, with and without chaos initiation.

The measured contact angles rely on visible means and are different from their nanoscopic thermodynamic values. This compromises the surface-energy predictions so much that the surface energy-values can be hundreds of percentages higher than expected based on comparisons with different methods as reported in several studies.

The phosphorus content needs to be assessed to optimize combustion efficiency and maintenance costs of power plants, ensure quality, and minimize the environmental impact of coal and coal ash. The detection of low levels of phosphorus in coal and coal ash is a significant challenge due to its complex chemical composition and low concentration levels.

Further, the existing gas compression method releases huge amount of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) that deplete the ozone layer. This is a global concern, which demands an immediate remedial technology.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA novel chromatography- and catalyst-free methodology has been developed for the synthesis of poly substituted pyrrole in good yields via a multicomponent reaction of arylglyoxal, 1,3-dicarbonyl, indole, and aromatic amine. This strategy provides various advantages such as simple experimental and workup procedures, mild reaction conditions, no added catalyst, use of green solvent, and simple purification procedure of pure product without using column chromatography. This green method offers a simple and highly effective strategy to synthesize a wide range of indole-pyrrole conjugates in a one-pot operation.

Our study aimed to determine the prevalence and associated factors of OH among the elderly attending a secondary care hospital. Furthermore, we assessed and compared the effectiveness of simple arm and leg tensing exercises, performed just prior to standing, to mitigate the orthostatic fall in blood pressure (BP) in elderly OH patients.

Novel biomarkers like beta trace protein (BTP) are studied for eGFR estimation. The aim of this study is to determine the serum levels of BTP in healthy controls and chronic kidney disease (CKD) cases and to find out the correlation of BTP levels with that of SCr and SCr-based eGFR formulas.

Volume conduction from insignificant neuronal sources in the brain poses a challenge to the detection and classification of single-trial low amplitude evoked potentials in electroencephalograph (EEG). This work presents a statistical signal selection method for enhanced detection of single-trial EEG auditory evoked potential (AEP) elicited in the brain in response to subjects' own name audio stimulus. The proposed method comprises of a signal selection stage based on a statistical analysis followed by a support vector machine (SVM)-based classifier.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) based non-invasive Brain Computer Interface (BCI) system is gaining significant attention as a promising solution for stroke rehabilitation. Accurate selection of informative EEG time segment, that accommodates the specific neural activity patterns associated with the underlying mental task can help to improve the efficacy of the BCI system. In this work, we propose a phase-based EEG epoch selection algorithm to extract the discriminative EEG time segment corresponding to bi-directional hand motor imagery.
