To date there is only one single-center study that has exclusively reported characteristics, location, and outcomes of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhages (ICH) among cocaine users. We aimed to describe the radiological location and characteristics along with clinical outcomes of spontaneous ICH in a similar population. We conducted a retrospective chart review of consecutive patients admitted to a tertiary care hospital, with a spontaneous ICH, who had a urine drug screen performed within 48 hours of admission.

We report the first case in the English language literature, to our knowledge, of native valve endocarditis due to Legionella pneumophila. The patient had no prior history of cardiothoracic intervention or congenital valvular process. A transesophageal echocardiogram showed a vegetation on the aortic valve.

Bacteremia in hemodialysis patients with cuffed tunneled catheters is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Native arteriovenous fistulas or vascular prostheses are preferred forms of vascular access, but their creation may not always be possible. Catheter-related bacteremia is due primarily to Gram-positive organisms, but Gram-negative infections are of increasing importance.
