Background: Total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) has been developed as treatment for disabling tibiotalar osteoarthritis. TAAs are divided into mobile- and fixed-bearings. The aim was to determine the incidence and trends of fixed- and mobile bearings over time and investigate the association of bearing type and risk of revision after primary TAA in the Netherlands.

Background: Abdominal pain after bariatric surgery (BS) is not uncommon. A number of patients require reoperation. Limited studies have investigated the outcome of reoperations for abdominal pain after BS.

What Is the Most Optimal Bearing Surface for Minimizing Instability After Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty?

Based on the results of our meta-analysis, dual mobility implants appear to have the most efficacy in preventing instability following revision total hip arthroplasty. Notwithstanding, given the relatively small sample sizes of the included studies, in conjunction with heterogeneity in study design, it is important to recognize that further large randomized controlled trials are necessary to determine the optimal bearing surface to reduce the risk of instability after revision total hip arthroplasty.

Apalutamide for non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC): real world data of a multicenter study.

In this study, we investigated the effect of local RNA secondary structure on Cas13d activity.

Introduction: Many women experience bleeding disorders that may have an anatomical or unexplained origin. Although hysterectomy is the most definitive and common treatment, it is highly invasive and resource-intensive. Less invasive therapies are therefore advised before hysterectomy for women with fibroids or bleeding disorders.

Objective: Altered B cell receptor (BCR) signaling has been implicated in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Here we aimed to identify signaling aberrations in autoantibody-positive and autoantibody-negative RA patients by performing a comprehensive analysis of the BCR signaling cascade in different B cell subsets.

Methods: We first optimized phosphoflow cytometry for an in-depth analysis of BCR signaling across immunoglobulin isotypes in healthy donors.

To carry out an in silico hazard assessment, understanding the type of chemical modification and its location on the original compound can greatly enhance the reliability of the evaluation. Here, we present and apply a method based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) enhanced with infrared ion spectroscopy (IRIS) to better delineate the molecular structures of transformation products before in silico toxicology evaluation.

An expeditive and green chemo-enzymatic route to diester sinapoyl-l-malate analogues: sustainable bioinspired and biosourced UV filters and molecular heaters.

Sinapoyl malate, naturally present in plants, has proved to be an exceptional UV filter and molecular heater for plants. Although there are nowadays industrially relevant sustainable synthetic routes to sinapoyl malate, its incorporation into certain cosmetic formulations, as well as its adsorption on plant leaves, is limited by its hydrophilicity. To overcome these obstacles, it is important to find a way to effectively control the hydrophilic-lipophilic balance of sinapoyl malate to make it readily compatible with the cosmetic formulations and stick on the waxy cuticle of leaves.

Analytical improvements and assessment of long-term performance of the oxidation-denitrifier method.

Unlabelled: The analysis of the nitrogen (N) isotopic composition of organic matter bound to fossil biomineral structures (BB-δ N) using the oxidation-denitrifier (O-D) method provides a novel tool to study past changes in N cycling processes.

Methods: We report a set of methodological improvements to the O-D method, including (a) a method for sealing the reaction vials in which the oxidation of organic N to NO takes place, (b) a recipe for bypassing the pH adjustment step before the bacterial conversion of NO to N O, and (c) a method for storing recrystallized dipotassium peroxodisulfate (K S O ) under Ar atmosphere.

Results: The new sealing method eliminates the occasional contamination and vial breakage that occurred previously while increasing sample throughput.

FOLFIRINOX chemotherapy modulates the peripheral immune landscape in pancreatic cancer: Implications for combination therapies and early response prediction.

Background: FOLFIRINOX chemotherapy has improved outcomes for pancreatic cancer patients, but poor long-term survival outcomes and high toxicity remain challenges. This study investigates the impact of FOLFIRINOX on plasma proteins and peripheral immune cells to guide immune-based combination therapies and, ideally, to identify a potential biomarker to predict early disease progression during FOLFIRINOX.

Methods: Blood samples were collected from 86 pancreatic cancer patients before and two weeks after the first FOLFIRINOX cycle and subjected to comprehensive immune cell and proteome profiling.

In-house ELISA protocols for capsid p24 detection of diverse HIV isolates.

Background: The capsid p24 (CA-p24) antigen is a component of the viral capsid of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that has been commonly used for clinical diagnosis and monitoring of HIV infections in Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISAs). Commercial CA-p24 ELISAs are widely used in research settings, but these kits are costly and have limited breadth for detecting diverse HIV isolates.

Methods: Commercial CA-p24 antibodies were used as capture and detection antibodies.

Current guidelines advise a stepwise provisional approach with optional two-stent strategy. However, a two-stent strategy, both upfront and stepwise provisional, is technically demanding.

Background: Abdominal pain after bariatric surgery (BS) is frequently observed. Despite numerous diagnostic tests, the cause of abdominal pain is not always found.

Objectives: To quantify type and number of diagnostic tests performed in patients with abdominal pain after BS and evaluate the burden and their yield in the diagnostic process.

A Prospective Study on the Diagnoses for Abdominal Pain After Bariatric Surgery: The OPERATE Study.

Purpose: Long-term follow-up after bariatric surgery (BS) reveals high numbers of patients with abdominal pain that often remains unexplained. The aim of this prospective study was to give an overview of diagnoses for abdominal pain, percentage of unexplained complaints, number and yield of follow-up visits, and time to establish a diagnosis.

Materials And Methods: Patients who visited the Spaarne Gasthuis Hospital, The Netherlands, between December 2020 and December 2021 for abdominal pain after BS, were eligible and followed throughout the entire episode of abdominal pain.
