A Magnetic Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MMIP) was created using naringin as a template molecule and acrylamide as a functional monomer, utilizing ultrasound to enhance its ability to adsorb naringin.
Surprisingly, the MMIP showed a stronger affinity for quercetin than for its intended target, naringin, leading to further studies on its adsorption properties and kinetics.
The research led to a maximum adsorption capacity of 7.2 mg/g for quercetin and 4.9 mg/g for naringin, and quercetin was successfully quantified from onion peel waste using the MMIP combined with HPLC-UV technology.
