Polyploid Giant Cancer Cells (PGCCs) have been recognized as tumor cells that are resistant to anticancer therapies. However, it remains unclear whether their presence in the bloodstream can be consistently detected and utilized as a clinical marker to guide therapeutic anticancer regimens. To address these questions, we conducted a retrospective study involving 228 patients diagnosed with six different types of carcinomas (colon, gastric, NSCLC, breast, anal canal, kidney), with the majority of them (70%) being non-metastatic.

Methods: We conducted a propensity score matched case-control study to investigate the association between PA and PTC in individuals with arterial hypertension (HT).
Background: Angiogenic imbalances, characterized by an excess of antiangiogenic factors (soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1) and reduced angiogenic factors (vascular endothelial growth factor and placental growth factor), contribute to the mechanisms of disease in preeclampsia. The ratio of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 to placental growth factor has been used as a biomarker for preeclampsia, but the cutoff values may vary with gestational age and assay platform.
Objective: This study aimed to compare multiples of the median of the maternal plasma soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 to placental growth factor ratio, soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1, placental growth factor, and conventional clinical and laboratory values in their ability to predict preeclampsia with severe features.
Context: The role of hormone parameters at adrenal venous sampling (AVS) in predicting clinical and biochemical outcomes remains controversial.
Objective: To investigate the impact of hormone parameters at AVS under cosyntropin stimulation on lateralization and on complete biochemical and clinical outcomes.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 150 sequential AVS under cosyntropin infusion.
For diverse procedures, sizable geographic variation exists in rates and outcomes of surgery, including for degenerative lumbar spine conditions. Little is known about how surgeon training and experience are associated with surgeon-level variations in spine surgery practice and short-term outcomes. This retrospective observational analysis characterized variations in surgical operations for degenerative lumbar scoliosis or spondylolisthesis, two common age-related conditions.

We analyzed changes in attachment dimensions in women with acute post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following sexual assault, that were randomized to a 14-week treatment with either the medication sertraline or Interpersonal Psychotherapy.
Methods: Seventy-four adult women who presented significant reduction in PTSD symptoms across the trial responded to the Revised Adult Attachment Scale at baseline, on week 8 of treatment, and at the end of the trial, on week 14.
Unlabelled: Predicting an individual's risk of treatment discontinuation is critical for the implementation of precision chemoprevention. We developed partly conditional survival models to predict discontinuation of tamoxifen or anastrozole using patient-reported outcome (PRO) data from postmenopausal women with ductal carcinoma in situ enrolled in the NSABP B-35 clinical trial. In a secondary analysis of the NSABP B-35 clinical trial PRO data, we proposed two models for treatment discontinuation within each treatment arm (anastrozole or tamoxifen treated patients) using partly conditional Cox-type models with time-dependent covariates.

Recently, BRCA2 carriers were shown to have a higher risk for developing CNS metastases. However, the patterns of recurrence and metastases of BRCA2 carriers with TNBC are unknown.

Background: The initial approach to the treatment of desmoid tumors has changed from surgical resection to watchful waiting. However, surgery is still sometimes considered for some patients, and it is likely that a few patients would benefit from tumor removal if the likelihood of local recurrence could be predicted. However, to our knowledge, there is no tool that can provide guidance on this for clinicians at the point of care.

Purpose: Our objective was to investigate the prevalence of SWA, associated factors, relationship with STIs, and behavioral aspects in men attended at Referral Centers for STIs and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)/CR-STI/AIDS in northeast Brazil.
Materials And Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a questionnaire with sociodemographic, clinical, sexual and SWA practices information was applied to 400 men attended at two CR-STI/AIDS in Northeast Brazil on the years of 2018 and 2019. Clinical and laboratory diagnoses of STIs were confirmed in medical records.
Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive form of breast cancer (BC). Neoadjuvant chemotherapy has proven efficacy in its treatment, and a pathological complete response (pCR) to therapy is predictive of improved long-term survival. The immune response is key to successful neoadjuvant chemotherapy, as indicated by the relation between the percentage of stromal tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in pre-treated tumour tissue samples and the likelihood of achieving pCR.

Methods: Patients with breast cancer who required PMRT were recruited (NCT01925651) and classified into two groups: standard-risk (SR, without skin involvement) and high-risk (HR, with skin involvement). SR was randomized between no bolus or 5 mm-bolus on alternate days and HR between 5 mm-bolus on alternate days or daily.
BACKGROUND: Among women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, biomarkers may stratify risk for developing preeclampsia with severe features (sPE). METHODS: Across 18 U.S.

Sexually assaulted women represent a particularly high-risk group for developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Potentially traumatic events (PTEs) and peritraumatic dissociation (PD) are known risk factors for PTSD. However, little is known about how previous trauma affects PD and how this relationship affects PTSD.

A thorough simulation study was performed to compare the performance of the semiparametric probabilistic index models (PIM) with a longitudinal analysis using parametric cumulative logit mixed models (CLMM).
Methods: In the setting of a control and intervention arm, we compared the power of the PIM and CLMM to detect differences in PRO adverse event (AE) between these groups using several existing and novel summary scores of PROs.
Over the last decades, the challenges in survival models have been changing considerably and full probabilistic modeling is crucial in many medical applications. Motivated from a new biological interpretation of cancer metastasis, we introduce a general method for obtaining more flexible cure rate models. The proposal model extended the promotion time cure rate model.

Scalp melanoma (SM) has a worse prognosis than melanoma in other locations likely because of late diagnosis due to hair coverage, difficulties in interpreting dermoscopy findings, and its unique molecular profile. We aimed to describe the clinical, histopathological, molecular, and dermoscopic patterns of SM and its relation to androgenetic alopecia/elastosis at the tumor site. Through a retrospective cross-sectional study, we identified all SM diagnosed at the A.

HER2 expression switching in circulating tumor cells (CTC) in breast cancer is dynamic and may have prognostic and predictive clinical implications. In this study, we evaluated the association between the expression of HER2 in the CTC of patients with breast cancer brain metastases (BCBM) and brain disease control. An exploratory analysis of a prospective assessment of CTC before (CTC1) and after (CTC2) stereotactic radiotherapy/radiosurgery (SRT) for BCBM in 39 women was performed.

Methods: A systematic search of databases (PubMed and EMBASE) was performed (CRD42021270329). The inclusion criteria were: a) cervix cancer diagnosis; b) staging CT and/or MRI (index test); c) staging cystoscopy and/or proctoscopy (standard test); and d) numbers of true positives (TP), true negatives (TN), false positives (FP), and false negatives (FN) provided.
Objectives: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common neoplasm in women. Biopsy of metastatic lesions is recommended to confirm estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) status as there are discrepancies in these patterns between primary tumors and metastases in up to 40% of the cases. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are related to BC outcomes and could potentially be an alternative to the invasive procedures of metastasis rebiopsy.
