PEG is considered a low hazard chemical, but parenteral PEG exposure is associated with a risk of anaphylaxis. Aliphatic polyesters are the synthetic polymers most commonly used in the development of resorbable medical implants/devices. The current standard of care in alveolar cleft repair is timing the procedure in the mixed dentition stage and making use of autologous bone to restore the maxillary defect. We report the case of a newborn boy with multinodular NRAS and BRAF mutation-negative congenital melanocytic nevi and cerebral lesions compatible with congenital intraparenchymal melanosis. Histopathology from skin lesions showed atypical nodular melanocytic proliferation with marked melanocytic atypia and a large number of mitoses and apoptosis, indicating aggressive proliferation. The child developed several new subcutaneous tumors and multiple internal lesions, which were confirmed to be metastases, and died at 5 months of age.

Background And Aims: Longstanding uncertainty surrounds the selection of surgical protocols for the closure of unilateral cleft lip and palate, and randomised trials have only rarely been performed. This paper is an introduction to three randomised trials of primary surgery for children born with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP). It presents the protocol developed for the trials in CONSORT format, and describes the management structure that was developed to achieve the long-term engagement and commitment required to complete the project.
