Is it time to resume elective knee arthroplasty surgery? A multidisciplinary experience in a Sardinian center during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

Background: Starting in January 2020, the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic caused changes in the nation's health systems. The hospital's reorganization led to a near-total stop of non-urgent, elective surgeries across all specialties, including hip and knee arthroplasty. However, in May 2020, a gradual elective surgery restarting was possible.

Anatomic reconstruction of the coracoclavicular and acromioclavicular ligaments with semitendinosus tendon graft for the treatment of chronic acromioclavicular joint dislocation provides good clinical and radiological results.

Purpose: To evaluate clinical and radiographic outcomes of anatomical reconstruction of the coracoclavicular and acromioclavicular ligaments with single-strand semitendinosus tendon graft for the treatment of chronic acromioclavicular joint dislocation.

Methods: Patients affected by chronic type III-V acromioclavicular joint dislocations were included. Exclusion criteria were: age under 18 years, concomitant rotator cuff tears, previous surgery to the same shoulder, degenerative changes of the glenohumeral joint, infections, neurologic diseases, patients with a previous history of ligament reconstruction procedures that had required harvesting of the semitendinosus tendon from the ipsilateral or contralateral knee.

The role of adipose derived stem cells in the treatment of rotator cuff tears: from basic science to clinical application.

Over the last decade, regenerative medicine has become increasingly popular throughout the scientific community. The poor healing capacity at the tendon-bone interface makes the rotator cuff an appealing target for biologic agents. Adipose derived stem cells are mesenchymal cells with the capacity for self-renewal and multipotential differentiation.

3D printing in shoulder surgery.

Three-dimensional (3D) printing is a novel modality with the potential to make a huge impact in the surgical field. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview on the current use of 3D printing in shoulder surgery. We have reviewed the use of this new method in 3 fields of shoulder surgery: shoulder arthroplasty, recurrent shoulder instability and orthopedic shoulder traumatology.

Stemless hip arthroplasty versus traditional implants: a comparative observational study at 30 months follow-up.

Introduction:: The aim of this retrospective case-control study is to evaluate clinical and radiographic results of short stems compared with traditional hip prostheses.

Methods:: 46 short stems (SS) and 50 traditional stems (TS) were selected. All the stems were implanted by the same surgeon using posterior approach because of primary osteoarthritis, post-traumatic osteoarthritis and avascular necrosis.

Spinal fusion in the next generation: gene and cell therapy approaches.

Bone fusion represents a challenge in the orthopedics practice, being especially indicated for spine disorders. Spinal fusion can be defined as the bony union between two vertebral bodies obtained through the surgical introduction of an osteoconductive, osteoinductive, and osteogenic compound. Autogenous bone graft provides all these three qualities and is considered the gold standard.
