Second Birth Fertility in Germany: Social Class, Gender, and the Role of Economic Uncertainty.

Building on a thick strand of the literature on the determinants of higher-order births, this study uses a gender and class perspective to analyse second birth progression rates in Germany. Using data from the German Socio-Economic Panel from 1990 to 2020, individuals are classified based on their occupation into: upper service, lower service, skilled manual/higher-grade routine nonmanual, and semi-/unskilled manual/lower-grade routine nonmanual classes. Results highlight the "economic advantage" of men and women in service classes who experience strongly elevated second birth rates.

COVID-19 Lockdowns and Female Employment: Evidence from the Philippines.

Using labor force survey (LFS) data collected before and during the COVID-19 lockdowns in the Philippines, we showed that hard lockdowns had a larger negative impact on the employment of women who had minor children compared to women who did not have minor children. Among Southeast Asian countries, the Philippines was among the hardest-hit by the pandemic, in terms of both the number of infected and its economic toll. The large economic toll was partly attributable to the extreme and militarized lockdown imposed at the onset of the pandemic in the country's three most populous and economically-important regions, namely Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and Central Luzon.

Self-concept in Mexican American girls and boys: validating the Self-Description Questionnaire-I.

This study examined the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Self-Description Questionnaire-I (SDQ-I) in a sample of Mexican American children. Findings provide support for both the classic multidimensional and hierarchical SDQ factor structure and a nonhierarchical model that incorporates a dimension not included in the classic model (i.e.

Ineffective parenting: a precursor to psychopathic traits and delinquency in Hispanic females.

Research studies with antisocial children have posited that multiple etiologies, including ineffective parenting, can produce psychopathic traits. The current study evaluated 136 Hispanic females and found that poor parenting predicted psychopathology and poor behavioral controls. Effective clinical interventions with antisocial children should focus on improving quality of parenting.
