Article Synopsis
  • - The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education highlighted the need for non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) to protect students and staff at institutions like the Namibia University of Technology, where a survey examined knowledge and attitudes toward the virus.
  • - Students demonstrated a high level of knowledge regarding COVID-19 transmission and symptoms, but a significant number held misconceptions about its origins and vaccine safety, with 31% believing it was lab-created and nearly half hesitant to get vaccinated.
  • - While students generally supported NPIs and viewed returning to in-person classes positively, the study suggests emphasizing vaccine safety and gradually lifting lockdowns to improve both educational experiences and the broader economy.

The appropriate solution to the problem of quality variability and microbial stability of traditional non-alcoholic pearl millet fermented beverages (NAPMFB) is the use of starter cultures. However, potential starter cultures need to be tested in the production process. We aimed to identify and purify bioburden lactic acid bacteria from naturally fermented pearl millet slurry (PMS) and assess their effectiveness as cultures for the production of NAPMFB.
