Background: Transcript variants and protein isoforms are central to unique tissue functions and maintenance of homeostasis, in addition to being associated with aberrant states such as cancer, where their crosstalk with the mutated tumor suppressor p53 may contribute to genomic instability and chromosomal rearrangements. We previously identified several novel splice variants in ovarian cancer RNA-sequencing datasets; herein, we aimed to elucidate the biological effects of the Integrin Subunit Beta 8 variant (termed pITGB8-205).

Methods: Resolution of the full-length sequence of pITGB8-205 through rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE-PCR).

Background Carotid wall abnormalities are significant predictors of cardiovascular events, including ischemic stroke. Identifying the clinical and biochemical risk factors associated with these abnormalities can aid in early intervention and prevention strategies. This study aimed to assess the association between lipid profiles, age, gender, smoking habits, hypertension, and carotid wall abnormalities in patients.

Introduction: Orthopaedic theatre lists are an important tool which must convey essential information to all staff to run an effective and safe theatre list. However, there are no set standards or guidelines on the components of an Orthopaedic theatre list. The objective of this study is to formulate guidelines for elective Orthopaedic theatre lists which improve efficiency and reduce errors.

We present a quantitative strategy to identify all projection neuron types from a given region with statistically different patterns of anatomical targeting. We first validate the technique with mouse primary motor cortex layer 6 data, yielding two clusters consistent with cortico-thalamic and intra-telencephalic neurons. We next analyze the presubiculum, a less-explored region, identifying five classes of projecting neurons with unique patterns of divergence, convergence, and specificity.

Long-range axonal projections are quintessential determinants of network connectivity, linking cellular organization and circuit architecture. Here we introduce a quantitative strategy to identify, from a given source region, all "projection neuron types" with statistically different patterns of anatomical targeting. We first validate the proposed technique with well-characterized data from layer 6 of the mouse primary motor cortex.

Dental trauma in the field of sports is the major linking channel between sports and dentistry. Sports dentistry is the branch of sports medicine that deals with the prevention of oral or facial athletic injuries, oral diseases and manifestations. Sports dentistry is also related to mild traumatic brain injuries during games and erosive lesions due to continuous intake of highly acidic sports and energy drinks.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the impact of an audio visual (AV) teaching module on basic torchlight examination of the eye and direct ophthalmoscopy for undergraduate medical students.

Methods: This observational longitudinal study was done on 33 consecutive medical interns during their Ophthalmology posting from December 2019 to March 2020 at a medical college in South-India. An AV-module was created using animation graphics, narratives, demonstrations on normal individuals and on patients with positive signs.

Aim: To assess the knowledge, attitude, practices (KAP), and barriers regarding pharmacovigilance and adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting among medical and dental faculties of the teaching hospitals.

Methodology: This study was conducted for a period of 3 months among medical and dental faculties. A self-structured, 42-item closed-ended questionnaire based on pharmacovigilance and ADR reporting was used in this study.

Scapholunate ligament is the most commonly injured ligament in the wrist and requires accurate diagnosis and treatment. It presents with pain, stiffness and can lead to carpal instability as well as degenerative arthritis if left untreated, with subsequent loss of function and disability. There are several management options currently available but there is no consensus on how best to manage a wrist with chronic sequelae of scapholunate ligament injury.

Urbanization is associated with large-scale irreversible landscape changes in response to the demands of burgeoning population, etc. Lack of basic amenities, job, and infrastructures in rural areas often drives migration towards the urbanizing landscapes. Urbanization is resource centric, which involves, large-scale transformation of the landscape with the irreversible impacts on the regional ecology, hydrology, and environment, which is evident from large-scale land cover changes leading to deforestation, encroachment of lakes/water bodies, forest, and farmlands, conversion of agriculture landscapes, etc.

Interventional radiology-based imaging is the preferred choice for diagnosis and therapy of many complex diseases, despite possible adverse effects of the radiation exposures. We have measured induced DNA damage and changes in gene expression in relation to entrance surface dose (ESD) in peripheral blood samples of patients (n = 51) who underwent neuro-interventional radiological procedures. The ESD values, measured by thermoluminescence dosimetry, were 4.

Eco-Hydrological footprint of a river basin refers to the hydrologic regime for sustaining vital ecological functions considering the appropriation of water by biotic components (including humans). It provides crucial information about the ecological status of a river, while addressing the divergence from natural conditions of the actual hydrological regime. Thus, this highlights the implicit relationship of hydrologic regime in meeting the demand of the biota.

Article Synopsis
  • Regional anaesthesia is frequently used for foot and ankle surgeries, and this study aimed to compare the effectiveness of a surgeon-delivered metatarsal block vs. an ultrasound-guided ankle block for pain management post-surgery.
  • In a double-blinded randomized controlled trial involving 50 patients, both groups received 20mls of 0.5% levobupivacaine, and the results showed no significant difference in pain scores at multiple time intervals.
  • The study concluded that the metatarsal block provided comparable pain relief and safety to the ultrasound-guided block, with slightly faster recovery of normal sensation but similar times for safe mobilization.

This questioner survey aimed about awareness of the Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) machine and its various clinical applications in ENT, among the ENT surgeons in the state of Odisha. 150 questioner forms on CBCT were distributed to the all the participating ENT surgeons at a state level ENT conference, out of which the response rate was 110. The participants were asked to answer 30 multiple choice questions, which were divided into 3 parts; general information on CBCT, general approach to CBCT and practice related to CBCT.

Heavy metals are one among the toxic chemicals and accumulation in sediments and plants has been posing serious health impacts. Wetlands aid as kidneys of the landscape and help in remediation through uptake of nutrients, heavy metals and other contaminants. The analyses of macrophytes and sediment samples help in evaluating pollution status in aquatic environment.

Sedimentation involving the process of silt transport also carries nutrients from upstream to downstream of a river/stream. Sand being one of the important fraction of these sediments is extracted in order to cater infrastructural/housing needs in the region. This communication is based on field research in the Aghanshini river basin, west coast of India.

Rapid growth, population concentration and the expansion of urban areas towards peri-urban regions have led to changes in urban structure and composition, and consequently changes in urban ecology. The purpose of this study is to estimate trees in the urban environment through quantification of vegetation cover using multi resolution spatial data supplemented with tree data acquired from field using pre-calibrated GPS. Optimal resolution for extracting trees was attained through fusion of multi resolution (spectral and spatial) data.

Keeping an eye the escalating costs of dental services, the treatment cost of the consequences of dental caries can be reduced to manageable proportions by preventive measures aimed at decreasing the prevalence. One such measure is by increasing the consumption of caries preventive foods. Recently, there has been an upsurge of interest in mushrooms not only as a healthy food but also as a caries preventive food.

The use of denture adhesives (DA) and their role in prosthodontics has been a conflicted topic both in clinical practice and dental education. The use of adhesives, are viewed as poor reflection of their clinical skills and prosthetic expertise or to provide retention to an ill-fitting prosthesis by many dentists. These conflicting views have raised many doubts among practicising dentists on the use of DAs in their clinical practice.
