Background: Although subspecialist orthopaedic surgeons usually request Magnetic Resonance Arthrogram (MRA) examinations, some orthopaedic surgeons may request this examination for a body part that is different from their subspecialty. The purpose of the study is to compare the MRA and the clinical findings in the subspecialist and non-subspecialist groups.

Background: Studies have found that tip apex distance (TAD) is the strongest independent predictor of lag screw cut-out following hip fracture fixation. The objective of this study was to understand the importance of introducing the concept of TAD to surgeons. The null hypothesis was that there were no differences between fractures fixed before awareness of TAD compared with fractures fixed after awareness of TAD.

This review considers methods used to quantify lag screw placement within the femoral head following proximal femoral fracture. Implants used for fixation of femoral neck fractures can lead to unwanted outcomes in some patients. Cutting out of the screw within the femoral head has been shown to be the commonest cause of failure and is related to lag screw placement within the femur.

Objective: To investigate, by assessing current practice, whether a UK general hospital's informed consent procedure in endoscopy was implemented for all patients, because informed consent is central to the proper conduct of endoscopic procedures.

Methods: A retrospective study of patients' medical notes, in which information written on the UK National Health Service (NHS) consent form and on a departmental leaflet on the gastroscopy procedure completed by the patient was assessed. Sampling began from 9 October 2003 until 100 patients were recorded.
