The pathogenesis of gallbladder cancer is complex, involving environmental and genetic risk factors. The matrix metallopeptidase 14 (MMP14) alters the tumor microenvironment and promotes tumorigenesis. In this study, we have characterized the role of the MMP14 promoter variants rs1004030 and rs1003049 in gallbladder cancer pathogenesis.

Association and functional significance of genetic variants present in regulatory elements of SERPINB5 gene in gallbladder cancer.

SERPINB5 is a mammary serine protease inhibitor, which is involved in various cellular functions. The aberrant expression of SERPINB5 is reported in many cancers along with GBC but limited information is available about its role in genetic predisposition for GBC. We carried out case-control study in 206 cases and 219 controls.

Serine protease inhibitor b5 (SERPINB5) is a tumor suppressor gene that plays a critical role in various cellular processes. In gallbladder cancer (GBC), SERPINB5's aberrant expression is reported but its role in genetic predisposition is not known. We enrolled 270 cases and 296 controls and genotyped them for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) using direct DNA sequencing, followed by genotype-phenotype analysis in GBC and other cancer cell lines.

Penile low intensity shock wave treatment for PDE5I refractory erectile dysfunction: a randomized double-blind sham-controlled clinical trial.

Purpose: Over the last decade, penile low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy (LI-ESWT) has emerged as a promising alternative for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). The aim of this trial is to assess the effect of electromagnetic LI-ESWT on the erectile function of vascular phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor (PDE5I) refractory ED patients.

A retrospective observational study was undertaken to gain new insight into the relationship between total testicular volume and levels of serum testosterone, luteinising hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, prolactin and clinical variables. A total of 312 men with sexual dysfunction or infertility were divided into groups A and B (156 each) on the basis of basal plasma testosterone ≤5 nmol/L of ≥12 nmol/L respectively. Group A was subclassified in A (primary hypogonadism) and A (secondary hypogonadism).

Strategies to prevent infectious complications are based on information provided by preoperative midstream urine cultures (PMUC). The aim of this study is to evaluate the concordance of the microbiologic findings of PMUC, cultures of the renal stone (RSC) and urine obtained directly from the renal pelvis (RPUC) in patients undergoing PCNL.

Adipocyte accumulation in corpus cavernosum: First clinical evidence and pathophysiological implications in erectile dysfunction.

Objectives: Animal models have shown that erectile dysfunction is associated with adipocyte accumulation under tunica albugínea, which could be involved in venous leakage and loss of penile rigidity. In the current sudy, we compared the histology of the penile sub-albuginean region of drug-refractory erectile dysfunction patients undergoing penile prosthesis implantation with potent patients with Peyronie's disease undergoing curvature correction procedures.

Materials And Methods: Seventeen refractory erectile dysfunction patients and fourteen potent patients with Peyronie's disease were recruited.

Detection of antimicrobial traits in fluorescent pseudomonads and molecular characterization of an antibiotic pyoluteorin.

Thirty isolates of fluorescent pseudomonads were obtained from rhizosphere of different crops in Raichur, India. The fluorescent pseudomonad strains were characterized in vitro for biochemical traits, antimicrobial traits, and pyoluteorin antibiotic production. All the isolates that showed fluorescent pigment production under UV light were rod shaped, Gram negative, positive for oxidase, catalase and citrate utilization tests, and negative for indole test.

Sudden death due to coronary artery insufficiency as a result of massive cardiomegaly--a case report.

Forensic pathologists encounter a wide range of deaths due to natural causes. Natural deaths can be sudden and unexpected, occurring in apparently healthy people. All such cases have to be investigated and a medico-legal autopsy should be conducted to ascertain the cause of death, and to rule out any criminal cause of death.

Fatal case of retropharyngeal abscess associated with Pott's disease.

Retropharyngeal abscess is a rare, deep seated infection of the neck that usually affects young children. Chronic retropharyngeal abscess is rare and results from tuberculosis of the spine. Such swelling in the neck gradually increases in size and is detected during the routine radiological screening for symptoms like pain, dysphagia, fever, dyspnoea, progressive inspiratory stridor (from laryngeal obstruction), neck hyperextension etc, but rarely leads to sudden death due to airway obstruction.

Use of vitamins C and E as a prophylactic therapy to prevent postoperative atrial fibrillation.

Oxidative stress has been strongly involved in the underlying mechanism of atrial fibrillation, particularly in the arrhythmia occurring in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with extracorporeal circulation (postoperative atrial fibrillation). The ischemia/reperfusion injury thus occurring in the myocardial tissue contributes to the development of tissue remodeling, thought to be responsible for the functional heart impairment. Consequently, structural changes due to the cardiac tissue biomolecules attack by reactive oxygen and/or nitrogen species could account for functional changes in ion channels, transporters, membrane conductance, cytosolic transduction signals, and other events, all associated with the occurrence of arrhythmic consequences.

Preparation of mono- and diacylglycerols by enzymatic esterification of glycerol with conjugated linoleic acid in hexane.

Esterification of glycerol with conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) was carried out in hexane. Lipase from Rhizomucor miehei provided a high degree of esterification (80%) in 8 h at 50 degrees C when used at 15% (w/w) in a system containing a 1:2 molar ratio of glycerol to free fatty acids. Esterification levels >80% were obtained in 8 h at 40 degrees C with 15% (w/w) lipase from Candida antarctica at the same molar ratio of reactants.
