Introduction: Early diagnosis of acute kidney injury (AKI) is limited with current tools. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are implicated in AKI pathogenesis in preclinical models, but less is known about their role in humans. We conducted a systematic review to identify dysregulated miRNAs in humans with AKI.

In preoperative planning, 3D imaging techniques, such as computer-aided design, allow the creation of detailed breast models for surgical simulation, optimizing surgical outcomes and reducing complications. During surgery, 3D printing makes it possible to customize implants and precisely shape autologous tissue flaps with customized molds and scaffolds.

MicroRNA (miR)-486-5p protects against kidney ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury in mice, although its long-term effects on the vasculature and development of CKD are unknown. We studied whether miR-486-5p would prevent the AKI to CKD transition in rat, and affect vascular function.

Despite extensive studies on Black flounder aquaculture, its limited genetic information available hampers the crucial role genetics plays in the development of this activity. In this study, we first employed Illumina sequencing technology to sequence the entire genome of Black flounder.

Despite its economic importance, biological information is scarce with no associated management directives. In this study, using a population genomic approach resulted in a lack of panmixia of two genetic pools with different effective population sizes (east central-tropical Atlantic and northeast Atlantic-Mediterranean) and an intermixing zone in Atlantic Morocco.

In the Iberian Peninsula, this species had been cited occasionally until the year 2018, when appeared in the Ebre Delta, and, for the first time, it started breeding in a territory of the Peninsula. Using environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis and visual surveys, the American bullfrog invasion in the Ebre Delta was monitored across two consecutive years (2019-2020).

The method aims to reduce the formation of brittle intermetallic compounds by using short welding times and a different chemical composition of the insert element. In the experiment, deep-drawing low-carbon steel, HSLA zinc-coated steel and precipitation-hardened aluminum alloy 6082 T6 were used.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe impact of the initial phase composition of alloys was evaluated, in particular, the content of Cu, Mn, and Mg in aluminum alloys D16ChATW, 2024-T351 and aluminum alloy T, which in its physical and mechanical characteristics is close to alloy 6013. The impact was evaluated on the effects manifested by yield sites that occur on aluminum alloys that were subject to the dynamic non-equilibrium processes (DNPs) at the expense of impact-oscillatory loading of different intensities under conditions of static tensioning, The one-time DNP, to which the investigated aluminum alloys were subjected at the pre-set levels of elastic strain followed by static tensioning, was found to cause yield sites formation. This is due to self-organization of the alloy structure, which contributes to alloy plasticization.

Although several causes have been attributed to this issue, as overfishing and climate change, little is known about the link between ascaridoid nematode parasitisation and fish status. In this study, sardines were obtained from four fishing grounds along the Mediterranean (Alboran, Northern Spain, Northern Adriatic, and Aegean), and one location in the Atlantic Ocean (Southern Portugal).

Sardina pilchardus is a small pelagic distributed throughout both Mediterranean and Eastern Atlantic. Seasonal trend analysis of energy storage and reproduction was carried out in sardines from two areas along the Atlantic-Mediterranean transition: Southern Portugal-Gulf of Cádiz (POR-GC) (Atlantic Ocean) and Alboran Sea (Alb) (Mediterranean Sea) from 2019 to 2021.

Aberrant expression of miRNAs alters biological processes and pathways linked to human disease. miR-486-5p is a muscle-enriched miRNA localized to the cytoplasm and nucleus, and is highly abundant in human plasma and enriched in small extracellular vesicles.

Most of the studies and tests on academic stress have been conducted in research labs or controlled environments, but these tests can not be extended to a real academic environment due to their complexity. Academic stress presents different associated symptoms, anxiety being one of the most common.

A cross-sectional study was conducted with thirty boys and thirty girls aged 9 to 11 from public schools in a heavily industrialized area, matched by age (±4 months) and gender with 15 boys and 15 girls from public schools in cities without relevant industrial activity. Neurobehavioral performance was assessed with the Behavioral Assessment and Research System.

Background: In drip-and-ship protocols, non-invasive vascular imaging (NIVI) at Referral Centers (RC), although recommended, is not consistently performed and its value is uncertain. We evaluated the role of NIVI at RC, comparing patients with (VI+) and without (VI-) vascular imaging in several outcomes.
Methods: Observational, multicenter study from a prospective government-mandated population-based registry of code stroke patients.
Background: Ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane block (US-TAP) is an important component of multimodal analgesia in laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair, although it has certain limitations. To overcome them, surgeons have developed several techniques to perform local anesthetic infiltration under laparoscopic guidance, but no trials evaluating these in transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) hernia repair were conducted till the date. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of a novel laparoscopic-guided local anesthetic infiltration technique (LDAI) with US-TAP in postoperative pain control and analgesic consumption for patients undergoing elective TAPP hernia repair.

We studied the willingness and factors associated with the decision to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in healthcare workers (HCW) in a Spanish tertiary hospital. Furthermore, we compared the percentage of willingness to vaccinate against COVID with actual vaccination rates among HCW in our hospital.

The pathophysiological mechanisms are unclear, but endothelial damage secondary to systemic vasculitis and the onset of anticoagulation therapy, both associated with severe forms of the infection, have been proposed to play a role in the development of this complication. We present the case of a 66-year-old man who presented to the emergency department with acute abdominal pain, hypotension and decrease of consciousness, a few hours after being discharged after a prolonged hospitalisation of 26 days due to severe SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia.

Bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus, Lowe, 1839) is one of the eight recognized species of the genus Thunnus. It is considered a tropical species distributed in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. To date, no validated presence of this species has been reported inside the Mediterranean Sea.

Due to the different types of material used in the manufacture of components and their interactions, the issue of assessing the impact of bimetallic corrosion is currently relevant. Based on the potential difference at the end of the corrosion test, it was possible to determine the "anode index", which determines the risk of degradation of materials due to bimetallic corrosion.
