Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to compare the effectiveness of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) versus surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in low-risk patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) through a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
  • Results indicate that TAVR has lower early mortality rates than SAVR, while long-term mortality rates are similar for both procedures; TAVR is also associated with fewer complications like atrial fibrillation and major bleeding, but has higher rates of permanent pacemaker implantation and paravalvular leak.
  • The conclusion suggests that TAVR is a viable treatment option for low-risk patients with severe symptomatic AS due to its benefits in early mortality and

A high serum chloride concentration has been associated with the development of acute kidney injury in critically ill patients. However, the association between hyperchloremia and acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients admitted with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is unknown. A retrospective analysis of consecutive patients admitted with the diagnosis of STEMI and treated with PCI was performed.
