Background: Cardiac valve calcification (CVC) is associated with adverse cardiovascular events. We studied the risk factors of CVC in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients and the value of serum β2-microglobulin (β2-MG) levels in predicting the incidence of CVC. β2-MG is a middle molecular weight toxin.

Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) can have additional comorbidities including hypertension, diabetes, and obesity, which can add to the disease burden. The psychosocial or the mental component of the pediatric CKD patient is often overlooked by health care professionals due to a lack of resources and training in identifying psychological disorders.

A variety of factors including anemia, poor muscle mass, cardiovascular changes and limited physical activity contribute to exercise intolerance. Studies suggest that early initiation of aerobic and resistance training improves the muscle function, ability to tolerate exercise and quality of life in CKD patients.

We hereby describe the case of a 2-year-old girl who presented with renal failure and was diagnosed with GPS. A brief review of the literature in regard to data on demographics, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis for renal recovery is also provided.

A common histological feature noted in all these GN is dominant C3 deposition in the glomerulus. In this review, we will provide an overview of the complement system as well as mediators, with an introduction to pharmaceutical agents that can alter the pathway.

Clinical presentations in early CKD are usually subtle. Awareness of the risk factors for CKD is important for early diagnosis and treatment to slow the progression of disease.

The role of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), a phosphaturic hormone has not been investigated in SCD. Hence, we evaluated parameters of renal tubular phosphorus handling and their relation to prevailing FGF23 levels in a cohort of young SCD patients.

Study Design: Sixty preterm (<37 weeks' gestational age [GA]) and 40 term infants were enrolled at birth. Serum Cr and CysC levels were assessed during the first week of life.
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease causing inflammatory tissue damage. Multiple organ damage can ensue with renal and neurological involvement carrying the worse prognosis. In this case report we present a 10-year-old African American girl who presented with abnormal choreiform movements, headache, weight loss, and fatigue.

Case Diagnosis And Treatments: We present the case of an 11-year-old obese male who suffered EHS with rhabdomyolysis and concurrent renal, pulmonary, and hepatic failure. Conventional therapies including continuous veno-venous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) were ineffective in preventing ongoing deterioration in clinical status.
Individuals with chronic kidney disease have poor exercise tolerance and are easily fatigued compared with their healthy peers. The primary reasons for poor exercise tolerance include anemia, effects of chronic uremia and metabolic acidosis on the heart and skeletal muscles, and lower levels of physical activity. Studies suggest that regular and early implementation of both aerobic and resistance exercise programs in persons with chronic kidney disease have positive effects on muscle function, exercise tolerance, and quality of life.
