The clinical guidelines on postpartum hemorrhage from the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) provide evidence-based recommendations structured around the 6Rs framework: Risk Assessment, Risk Reduction, Recognition and Evaluation, Reaction, Resuscitation, and Review. Since its publication, our institution has begun implementing all the guideline recommendations. One key recommendation is to calculate the Maximum Allowable Blood Loss (MABL) to reach a hemoglobin level of 70 g/L for every obstetric patient.

Introduction: Limited information exists on the prevalence and outcomes of patients undergoing surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) for aortic stenosis (AS) with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). This study aims to describe the number of AS patients undergoing SAVR with LVEF less than 55 % and quantify LVEF improvement at follow-up.

Material And Methods: We analyzed patients undergoing SAVR with LVEF less than 55 % and the number of patients that improved the LVEF at 6 months.

Pediatric renal tumors account for 3%-11% of childhood cancers, the most common of which is Wilms tumor or nephroblastoma. Epidemiology plays a key role in cancer prevention and control by describing the distribution of cancer and discovering risk factors for cancer. Large pediatric research consortium trials have led to a clearer understanding of pediatric renal tumors, identification of risk factors, and development of more risk-adapted therapies.

Unlabelled: Zolpidem is one of the most widely prescribed hypnotic (non-benzodiazepine) agents for sleep disorder. Recently, an increase in the demand for this drug has been observed, mainly in the elderly population.

Objective: This study aims to analyze the acute effect of zolpidem on cognitive and balance dysfunctions in the elderly population.

Here, we examined if the Dufour's gland secretion in the primitively eusocial bumble bee Bombus impatiens signals information about caste, social condition, and reproductive status. We chemically analyzed Dufour's gland contents across castes, age groups, social and reproductive conditions, and examined worker behavioral and antennal responses to gland extracts.

Background Transcutaneous bilirubinometers are a non-invasive tool to estimate serum bilirubin. However, once on phototherapy (PHT) and after PHT, its usefulness is precluded. The objective of this study was to prove the hypothesis that transcutaneous bilirubin (TcB) assessment in a covered skin area during PHT could be used to guide the duration of PHT in term and moderate-late preterm infants with non-isoimmune hyperbilirubinemia.

Susceptibility to pathogens and parasites often varies between sexes due to differences in life history traits and selective pressures. Nosema apis and Nosema ceranae are damaging intestinal pathogens of European honey bees (Apis mellifera). Nosema pathology has primarily been characterized in female workers where infection is energetically costly and accelerates worker behavioral maturation.

Evaluating the Role of Drone-Produced Chemical Signals in Mediating Social Interactions in Honey Bees (Apis mellifera).

Pheromones play a critical role in shaping societies of social insects, including honey bees, Apis mellifera. While diverse functions have been ascribed to queen- and worker-produced compounds, few studies have explored the identity and function of male-produced (drone) compounds. However, several lines of evidence suggest that drones engage in a variety of social interactions inside and outside of the colony.

The Presence of 'Um' as a Marker of Truthfulness in the Speech of TV Personalities.

The aim of this study is to determine whether the presence of the interjection 'um' can distinguish between the deceptive and truthful speech of individuals who are practised in the art of impression management. A total of 50 truthful and 61 deceptive statements were extracted from the speech of celebrities participating in a televised comedy panel show where celebrity guests try to convince an opposing team of their truthfulness. Participants' use of 'um' (measured as a percentage of the total word count of each statement) was analysed.

Efficacy of stem cells on the healing of peri-implant defects: systematic review of preclinical studies.

This systematic review considers the evidence from animal studies evaluating the effectiveness of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) in the treatment of intraoral peri-implant defects. MEDLINE, EMBASE, and LILACS databases were searched for quantitative preclinical controlled animal model studies that evaluated the effect of MSC on bone healing at intraoral peri-implant bone defects. The primary outcome was the amount of (re-)osseointegration reported as bone-to-implant contact in the defect area.

Neurophysiological mechanisms underlying sex- and maturation-related variation in pheromone responses in honey bees (Apis mellifera).

In the honey bee (Apis mellifera), social organization is primarily mediated by pheromones. Queen-produced 9-oxo-2-decenoic acid (9-ODA) functions as both a social and sex pheromone, eliciting attraction in both female workers and male drones, but also affecting other critical aspects of worker physiology and behavior. These effects are also maturation related, as younger workers and sexually mature drones are most receptive to 9-ODA.

Anesthetic management of neurosurgical procedures during pregnancy: a case series.

Introduction: Neurosurgical disorders are rare during pregnancy and challenge the anesthesiologist with conflicting anesthetic considerations and little evidence to guide decision-making. Our objective was to review the anesthetic management of pregnant patients undergoing intracranial neurosurgery at our institution and to describe the perioperative complications and outcomes.

Methods: We used our institutional Discharge Abstract Database to identify patients assigned both neurological and obstetrical International Classification of Disease 10-A codes between April 1, 2001 and March 1, 2012.

Formation of droplet networks that function in aqueous environments.

Aqueous droplets in oil that are coated with lipid monolayers and joined through interface bilayers are useful for biophysical measurements on membrane proteins. Functional networks of droplets that can act as light sensors, batteries and electrical components can also be made by incorporating pumps, channels and pores into the bilayers.
