Pelvic floor dysfunction and sexual health issues are common postpartum due to weakened pelvic muscles, significantly impacting women's quality of life (QoL). Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is a widely used approach to address these issues. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of two rehabilitation methods-vibrating vaginal cones (VCG) and PFMT exercises (CG)-in improving pelvic floor muscle strength, reducing dyspareunia, and enhancing sexual function in postpartum women.

Temporal lobe epilepsy with isolated amygdala enlargement: anatomo-electro-clinical features and long-term outcome.

Background: Temporal lobe epilepsy with isolated amygdala enlargement (TLE-AE) still lacks a definite characterization and controversies exist.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study identifying brain MRI scans with isolated AE between 2015 and 2021. We collected clinical and paraclinical data of patients with TLE-AE and evaluated the outcome.

CASPR2-related epilepsy: A distinctive and unrecognized form of epilepsy in adult and elderly males.

Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the clinical features of contactin-associated protein-like 2 (CASPR2)-IgG-associated seizures.

Methods: Nine patients were retrospectively collected from two epilepsy centers. For each patient we obtained a full clinical, neurophysiological, and MRI study along with detection of antineuronal autoantibodies from serum and CSF.

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has recently enabled to identify four distinct Alzheimer's disease (AD) subtypes: hippocampal sparing (HpSp), typical AD (tAD), limbic predominant (Lp), and minimal atrophy (MinAtr). To date, however, the natural history of these subtypes, especially regarding the presence of subjects switching to other MRI patterns and their clinical and biological differences, remains poorly understood.

Anti-LGI1 encephalitis and Langerhans cell histiocytosis: Two associated entities? A case report.

Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is an immune-mediated condition that induces brain inflammation due to several neural-specific autoantibodies. The main triggering and predisposing factors are infections, genetics, the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors and tumors. We report a case of a 57-year-old male with a biopsy-confirmed Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) and a concomitant anti-LGI1 encephalitis discussing a possible relationship in the pathogenesis of these phenomena.

Creating a biomedical knowledge base by addressing GPT inaccurate responses and benchmarking context.

We created GNQA, a generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) knowledge base driven by a performant retrieval augmented generation (RAG) with a focus on aging, dementia, Alzheimer's and diabetes. We uploaded a corpus of three thousand peer reviewed publications on these topics into the RAG. To address concerns about inaccurate responses and GPT 'hallucinations', we implemented a context provenance tracking mechanism that enables researchers to validate responses against the original material and to get references to the original papers.

Antenatal Anovaginal Distance, a Potential Indicator of Perineal Damage during Pregnancy.

Background/objectives: Perineal injuries, including episiotomies and spontaneous tears, are common complications during childbirth, often leading to significant discomfort and prolonged recovery for women. This retrospective observational cohort study aimed to explore the relationship between antenatal anovaginal distance (AVD) and the incidence of perineal injuries in a cohort of pregnant women evaluated for pelvic floor health at 28 to 32 weeks of gestation.

Methods: Conducted at the University Hospital of Padua over 18 months, the study included 416 women who underwent vaginal delivery at term.

Building pangenome graphs.

Pangenome graphs can represent all variation between multiple reference genomes, but current approaches to build them exclude complex sequences or are based upon a single reference. In response, we developed the PanGenome Graph Builder, a pipeline for constructing pangenome graphs without bias or exclusion. The PanGenome Graph Builder uses all-to-all alignments to build a variation graph in which we can identify variation, measure conservation, detect recombination events and infer phylogenetic relationships.

Recent Advances in Graphene Adaptive Thermal Camouflage Devices.

Thermal camouflage is a highly coveted technology aimed at enhancing the survivability of military equipment against infrared (IR) detectors. Recently, two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials have shown low IR emissivity, widely tunable opto-electronic properties, and compatibility with stealth applications. Among these, graphene and graphene-like materials are the most appealing 2D materials for thermal camouflage applications.

FDG-PET and ASL MRI identify largely overlapping hypermetabolic and hyperperfusion changes in limbic autoimmune encephalitis.

Background: Arterial spin labeling (ASL) MRI has been anecdotally used to assess brain perfusion in autoimmune encephalitis (AE) and its relationship with [F]FDG-PET dysmetabolism has been scarcely investigated.Considering the physiological coupling of metabolism and perfusion, we aimed to evaluate the degree of correspondence between ASL-MRI and [F]FDG-PET in AE.

Methods: A retrospective cohort of five patients underwent ASL-MRI and [F]FDG-PET during the acute stage and at follow-up.

Parsonage-Turner syndrome (PTS) is an idiopathic condition that may be triggered by vaccination against SARS-CoV-2. High-resolution ultrasound can support the diagnosis and monitoring of PTS patients by demonstrating specific nerve abnormalities. The recently implemented superb microvascular imaging technology can help stratify the prognosis of these patients, with the potential to contribute to the clinical management of PTS.

Adjunctive cenobamate in people with focal onset seizures: Insights from the Italian Expanded Access Program.

Objective: This study was undertaken to assess the effectiveness/tolerability of adjunctive cenobamate, variations in the load of concomitant antiseizure medications (ASMs) and predictors of clinical response in people with focal epilepsy.

Methods: This was a retrospective study at 21 centers participating in the Italian Expanded Access Program. Effectiveness outcomes included retention and responder rates (≥50% and 100% reduction in baseline seizure frequency).

Objective: To investigate the Italian experience on the surgical and radiosurgical treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy due to hypothalamic hamartoma (HH) in the period 2011-2021 in six Italian epilepsy surgery centers, and to compare safety and efficacy profiles of the different techniques.

Methods: We collected pseudo-anonymized patient's data with at least 12 months of follow-up. Surgical outcome was defined according to Engel classification of seizure outcome.

Epileptic seizures are frequently associated with liver dysfunction and alcoholism. Subacute encephalopathy with seizures in chronic alcoholics (SESA) is an underrecognized condition with peculiar clinical, EEG and neuroradiological features.We report the case of a 58-year-old man with previous alcohol use disorder (AUD) and acute-on chronic liver failure on alcohol-related cirrhosis, referred for urgent Orthotopic Liver Transplantation evaluation.

On the use of contrastive learning for standard-plane classification in fetal ultrasound imaging.

Background: To investigate the effectiveness of contrastive learning, in particular SimClr, in reducing the need for large annotated ultrasound (US) image datasets for fetal standard plane identification.

Methods: We explore SimClr advantage in the cases of both low and high inter-class variability, considering at the same time how classification performance varies according to different amounts of labels used. This evaluation is performed by exploiting contrastive learning through different training strategies.

A revamped rat reference genome improves the discovery of genetic diversity in laboratory rats.

The seventh iteration of the reference genome assembly for Rattus norvegicus-mRatBN7.2-corrects numerous misplaced segments and reduces base-level errors by approximately 9-fold and increases contiguity by 290-fold compared with its predecessor. Gene annotations are now more complete, improving the mapping precision of genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomics datasets.

The autologous serum skin test (ASST) predicts the response to anti-IgE treatment in Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria patients: a prospective study.

Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), characterized by recurrent itchy wheals and angioedema for > 6 weeks, is a quite common disease that may heavily impair the quality of life. Omalizumab, an anti-IgE mAb, has much improved the management of CSU but patients' response to the drug may vary and predictive markers are still largely missing. We investigated the predictive value of the autologous serum skin test (ASST) on omalizumab response.

CO is the contrast media to choose in patients with initial Chronic Kidney Disease undergoing endovascular aneurysm repair to prevent further renal function deterioration.

Objective: Even low quantities of iodine contrast media (ICM) could be responsible for exacerbation of a chronic kidney disease (CKD). Aim of this study was to determine whether it is more reasonable to perform endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) procedures in patients with initial CKD using CO rather than ICM to prevent further kidney deterioration.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed at our institution to identify patients with preoperative CKD at initial stage (class G3a-G3b according to KDOQI-KDIGO classification) who underwent either CO-EVAR or ICM-EVAR.
